Mine makes that sound, I think that it's somewhat normal wastegate flutter, I think true compressor surge happens while in boost, that's what really causes damage.
the only way i can even get mine to make the flutter sound is if i put a few pounds of boost on it and let off right away.. at full boost WOT my bov just makes the standard psshht sound, not even very loud.. I have to intentionally make it flutter like that on my car.
i do it at 2:13 and i think 2:28 on this video..
boost was only set to 4psi in this vid.. i don't even think i was at full boost when i do it at 2:28

lol lemme find out what my insurance would value it at first.. lol j/k
I disagree, i think the Greddy Type S BOV is the worst sounding, it has that super high pitched whistle.. Some people do have that with the SSQ i guess too but its not nearly as bad.. my SSQ doesn't whistle on my car though it just sounds like Pssshhhhhht!
greddy type S
i really dislike this bov

This is where matching up your BOV to your boost level comes in- if the spring in your BOV is too strong it won't release at lower boost levels and will cause surge. If it's too weak it will leak.
When you're at 4psi, the air pressure is too weak to open the valve so the air goes back and hits the compressor wheel and causes surge. It's unlikely to do any damage though at that small mass of air.

From what I have read and seen, if you have your bov located on the hotpipe, it's much easier for it to blow off when you release the throttle. But from the pics I've seen of your car, it's a version 3 black and it's on your coldside.
My blitz is located where the stock bov is on the hotside. It blows off all the time and whenever someone gives me a bad drive, I just pull next to them and sneeze as I pass them lol.
I don't even have to get into boost and I can hear the twins spool and blow off when I release the throttle.

And something about that type s video doesn't sound right... I have a type s and it sound MUCH close to that HKS video you posted. I would have thrown out the type s years ago if it sounded like it does in that video! I'm also running 17-18psi so that might have something to do with it

i recently replaced my blitz bov which was utterly lame sounding with a hks ssqv well its actually a knock off but it looks and sounds the same and it cost me all of $0 haha. I'm quite happy with it i had been wanting to get rid of that lame blitz since i got the car. here is a pic of it.

Pull type
I thought the HKS was pull type BOV and should never not open at any boost level. no springs to adjust for the correct boost level.
EDIT: akaPaco, car looks and sounds great. Cant wait to install and finish my NA- T Setup.
