Default matching up the right ecu

hey guys, i had the ecu go bad on my 92 sc300. i have an extra ecu but i think i may not be able to use it because since putting it in i cant get the car to time right and it idles really low. i have my old ecu with me now but the numbers are worn off badly and all i can make out is what looks like *9661-24300. when looking at a replacement ecu is there a way to tell which one will work with my car based on the number? also im considering just having this one re soldered. ill try to get the number off the other ecu i have as soon as i can. thanks

The ecu for at/mt does not matter for your year. You can use 92-94, 95 has heated O2's and will give a CEL for wiring problem with O2's. I believe all 96 and up are cali emissions and differ both with OBD2 cat monitoring as well as being OBD2, not your car. Yours is an early ecu OBD1. I have the same one. My origonal ecu had a cap leak on the board and shorted the injector driver. I replaced it with a 93 auto 2jzge ecu. No problems. I love how "dumb" the older toyota ecu's are.

thats exactly what happened with mine, had 2 capacitors leak and it was just dumping fuel in the engine. this is good info though, i didnt know that auto or manual didnt matter for the early years! thanks!

So if I swapped in a W58 into an automatic '96 I would have some compatibility problems when switching the ECU?

OP, consider having your ECU rebuilt for a fee. You can find a few rebuilders on the 'bay that charge about $100 to do it. the capacitor issue is a known problem.

ok i called up lexus today and they said that the spare ecu i have with the number 89661-24301 is dated between 1/92 and 8/93 so im sure it should work. also i just realized that the original ecu serial is only one number off. being 89661-24300
