Goin Deep into the W58
I hate any unnecessary noise from my vehicles and I have a slight bearing whine from the W58 I just put in. Soooo out it came today. Took 1hr 15min. Nothing like familiarity. I got the W58 rebuild kit from drift motion and will start on it tomorrow. Wish me luck. I also had a very slight shudder that happens when at 2000+ rpm with the engine in all gears and when stopped in neutral or with the clutch pushed in. I think it could be one of 3 things:
1. I put the spacer that was behind the flex plate behind the flywheel. I will remove this.
2. Transmission Mount: I will replace this.
3. Flywheel/clutch plate/ pressure plate out of balance. I doubt this, but will get it checked anyway.

I found a couple of things. First, I did not take out the spacer that was previously behind the flex plate. It makes about a 3/16" difference in spacing. Basically enough so that when started in neutral the car would move forward a very very slight amount, indicating that the spacer was allowing the clutch to ever so slightly engage.
Second and more important the wire C clip on the howe bearing had come off and was hung up in the pressure plate fingers. No damage to the fingers at all, but possibly interfering enough so that not all of the fingers were sprung evenly. I think this uneven springing could have caused the vibration. Speaking with my mechanic friend who has installed hydraulic clutches in Cobra replicas cars figures the c clip does very little. So I am going to leave it out. It was doing nothing anyway, just getting in the way.
I really do not think that the clutch/flywheel/pressure plate is out of balance. The flywheel came balanced.
I am going to rebuild the tranny and reinstall and see if the problem was the c clip and or the spacer.
