Default Law abiding resonator

SOO. yea i want to mod my exhaust, but 100%legal. I already know you have to have a cat. And i really dont mind having a Muffler because i dont want it to be too loud. But the resonator is baffling me. I haven't seen where not having a resonator is legal or illegal. But i did see a member on here say he hopes the resonator delete doesn't get him pulled over. so Is it legal or illegal

You may want to check on your specific states emissions regulations. Something tells me OK isnt gonna be that bad.

Sorry to bring up an old thread but I couldn't find my answer. I was planning on deleting my resonators too has anyone done this in So Cal and is it legal? I also have Borla axle backs but these things sound stock to me.

Your OK to remove the resonators. As long as the Catalytic converters are present you shouldn have any problems

Also I'm new to this area, Industry, anyone know any good exhaust shops? As in good I mean cost effective but still good work.

It's legal. I deleted my resonators when I had my dual Magnaflow setup and my HKS Carbon Ti setup. It will be louder without it, but it won't be too loud. Cutting the mufflers and keeping the resonators will sound good.

Did you get an SC?

Yeah I got a '97 SC400. It has Borla axle backs but it's so quiet so I wanted to remove the resonators to increase the volume just a little.

I haven't heard the Borla exhaust on an SC before. The resonators should help with the volume. Is the piping stock and does it still have the cats on?

Yeah stock piping and all cats are in place. The Borlas are about as quiet as the stock mufflers and they even look stock with the small mufflers and tips. The only way to tell the difference is the Borla lettering on the muffler and the tips are angled and about a half inch bigger in diameter.

technically, I believe it's "illegal," but it's never enforced (unless you're being a dumb ***, and happen to find a cop that's in a ***** mood).

imo, a resonator is an important part of an exhaust, in terms of sound. it makes it less raspy, mellows and smooths the exhaust note.
