WOW!!!! reading thru this thread regarding JZ motor swaps i read thru alot of fails,
1. the 1JZ/2JZ with STOCK twins fit without a problem, You have to USE! the correct motor brackets, JZA70 are for MKIIIs, The MKIV, Soarers are the same brackets, The Chasers & Aristos have front sump set ups & different brackets as well..

2. Since owning both cars, The SC300 is way fuking easier to swap than the MKIII, SC300 is almost true plug & play (almost) the MKIII you have to extend (same thing with the sc300) combined plugs blah blah.. not fun...

3. the SC300 has alot of compatible parts with the MKIV, Brakes, Suspension, **** you can swap the V160 & rear diff from a MKIV for more serious HP making guys.. .

4. MKIII+7mgte+Headgasket=super fail.... It is alot of freaking money to swap a stupid blown head gasket if you wanna do it right.. like send the block & head to get machined for the Only head gasket that will stop from blowing.. HKS... plus its hella easier to swap the head gasket if you have the motor outta the car, OH wait!!! don't forget the piece of **** Oil pump the 7MGTE has... Rod knock anyone?? lol

Agreed that motor is a Pile of Fail. Drive the 7m into the ground when it blows, sell it to someone who needs a mooring anchor, thats what they are best suited for. (i accually know someone who used a 7m as a mooring anchor)

there is only one way i'd ever build a 7m (and thats the right way..)

Take the motor out, send the head in for a surfacing for metal head gasket, take the block apart and have new rings put in it, new bearings, have the block decked for metal head gasket, new oil pump, ARP studs.. you should be good to go with BPU then.

BTW.. I have owned my MKIII since 97-98.. Yes i have modded the car thru the years & I have learn that the 7mgte does not last very long under high HP... Now my set up is a 10K RPM 1jz head with HKS 272 cams, GT4246, AEM ems, Getrag 6 speed, blah blah blah as you can see i am not a noob...

I'm not looking for much horsepower, just basic BPU's, maybe even only an exhaust. I don't need much since it's just a learner, I'm just curious if there's anything I need to do to prevent the engine from falling apart, because I only know of the problematic head gasket on the 7m. How would I remedy that and any other problems the car has without dropping ridic amounts of cash into the car? I'm only planning on coils, strip the interior, racing seat, steering wheel, maybe an exhaust, and LSD (if it's needed? I know the mk3 comes with a stock LSD, not sure if it's suitable for drifting).

well having owned 2 MKIII's and 2 SC300's i would say the MKIII would be better if you can get a factory turbo car just because it already comes with an R154 and an LSD from the factory, if you want to keep it on a budget and be reliable you can just go N/A and get a 2jz GE motor/ecu etc dirt cheap and swap it. Also MKIII parts are WAY cheaper..... go price an SC300 headlight
