Default kwg's sc300

I picked up my '92 sc300 from a SFPD officer a few months ago and have been slowly modifying it to my taste ever since. I chose the sc300 because I wanted something I can daily during the week and track on the weekend. My background consists of a few 240s, rx7s, an ae86, and a s2000. This thread will also serve somewhat as a build thread, mainly to keep track of my progress.

Specs:
'92 Lexus SC300
Garnett Red / Tan
137k
5speed
Clean Title

-G35 wheels wrapped with Dunlop Direzza z1 Star Spec (225/45/17 - 245/40/17)
-Supra Brake Calipers w/ Goodridge Stainless Steel Lines, Hawk HP Plus Pads, and ATE Super Blue Brake Fluid
-Stance GR+ Coilovers
-K&N intake filter

Here's a few pics of my old s2000:

Very nice! How do the star specs do after several laps in a row? Also, where do you track it? I'll be back in the bay area in September and I'm going to be looking for a place.

the star specs are amazing, and no other street tire can compare for the price. it starts to lose a little bit of grip the last couple laps in the every session but otherwise they're perfect. im planning to use wider tires once these are done which should help a bit.

i've been to the following:

thunderhill raceway in willows, ca (about 2.5hours away)
laguna seca in monterey, ca (about 1.5 hours away)
buttonwillow raceway in buttonwillow, ca (about 3hours away)

i've only taken the sc300 to thunderhill but once i start to get more comfortable with the car dynamics i'll start taking it else where. let me know when you'll be in the bay area we should definitely do a couple track days.

Ya I'll let you know for sure!
I'm going to try to bring my extra set of wheels and tires out if I can fit them all in the car along with all my other stuff lol. It'll be a tight fit. I've just got a set of Azenis and they're at about 2/32's so those will probably last me a few autocrosses or like one track day. I've been looking into either the star specs or the ventus rs-3's. They're both around the same price, but I'm kind of leaning toward the star specs.

Oh and how do you like the Stance coilovers? I've been looking into different suspension options, and I'm thinking either stance, BC, or the gixxer drew setup. I've heard the BC ones are pretty stiff though, but stance are fine for daily driving.

the star specs are amazing best tire for the price IMO. the stances are great, perfect for street and occasional track. i would prefer something stiffer since im so use to the responsiveness and how agile my s2k was but i know this is a different type of car and im slowly adjusting to it

Hey that's a similar background to mine....

I went
'88 RX-7 Convertible (Rotary fire = BBQ)
'88 CRX Si (Tracked once then sold...went back to RWD cars)
'89 240sx (SR project that never happened)
'91 Miata (old lady crashed into it....when it was parked)
'85 Corolla GT-S (teenage girl crashed into it...when it was parked)
'05 TRD Supercharged Scion tC (reliable daily driver, to compliment my track project AE86)

I also have 225/45/17 dunlop z1 star specs on my tC that's dropped on Tein coilovers.
I LOVE these tires! more than my old RS2's.

Im curious as to why you chose the sc300 after having cars that handle so much better? Why downgrade in terms of handling?

I owned a 2003 Berlina Black on Black S2K so I know what you're going through.

On of the main reasons is that I wanted an underpowered car with plenty of potential. (partly why i jumped about so many S-chassis) it was also a challenge for myself, if i can be fast in this car. I only wanted to upgraded the suspension, brakes, and tires and learn to drive the car to its limit. eventually i plan to go NA-T

Another is that I wanted a car which is slightly luxurious, modern, i can daily/track on weekends, and is rare. i've always like the sc300 and i suppose it was just a matter of time before i picked one up.
