The temperature needle on most cars modern cars isn't displayed in a linear fashion. What I mean by this is that a certain range such as 160-220F could all be displayed as the same position on the scale. Manufactories do this so people don't freak out at the gradual change between idle and cruising temp. Therefore just because your temp. needle is still in a normal position does not mean your cooling is the same.

^, That is correct.
That 160 - 220 range would be considered "normal". This "normal" would still be within manufacturer's specs. Nothing to be alarmed about.

To be more exact, I have not since seen the gauge reach it's threshold and go past it to tell me that it is running above spec. In any case the temperature needle, if functioning correctly, will still tell you whether your temperature is above normal or within specs by visual layout.

just make sure you have a unit that tapes into your AC, so that when you are running the AC, the fans will kick on.

I've had electric fans but I switched back due to the temp going up just a tad. Plus the noise was a fail for me. I didn't have the shroud and I'm sure that would help. Currently I'm happy with the clutch fan, cali heat, and driving hard 100% of the time.
