What are some good cars for long distance driving?
Basically i was thinking of attributes such as cruise speeds at low rpms and long term reliability for keeping the car for a long long time.
I would think that 4bangers are not exactly what you would want to drive cross country many many times over the course of say 20 years. Is that a myth? Should I be concerned about a 4bangers ability to stay cool at high rpms for cross country drives?
I realize that you can drive cross country in any car, but some cars are more ideal than others, i.e. you wouldn't want to drive a honda s2000 from orlando to seattle over and over and over again, or would you?

machinegt,
Any car that you like is the one to drive. You can justify any car as better one way or another for cross country use.
My Lexus is very capable. A nice LS430 would do the trick too.
My favorite long distance car was my 1996 Impala SS. It was huge and sat at barely above idle cruising 65.
Good luck

Sorry, but Lincolns have this hands down. Nothing like riding in a Town Car on long trips. You know what I am talking about, space, style, and that fingertip steering wheel. Lincoln by far for a long trip.

I have driven across country a few times. I would love to drive it in a Rolls convertible, but I think that a perfect car would be the SC 430, if you were just sticking to paved roads. You have the useless back seat to throw the cooler and snacks and the ability to recline the front seat and lower the top.

Best long-distance road car I ever owned was an '85 Peugeot Turbogas. 4-cyl, yes, but geared well and very quiet on the road, and the driver's seat was absolutely great! Better than the seat in my SC, but my a$$ is older and bonier than it was back then, so who knows? I have always found French cars to be very comfortable - remember the Citroen with the adjustable hydraulic suspension? Predecessor to the Soarer with Active suspension...

maybe a good 6 cyl option would be the best bet, i dont know how much you want to spend, but low end maybe a es300 or higher end a E320, but than again, in my travels through out the mid west and more warmer states i see alot of american cars, and our imports are quite rare, so maybe an american car just incase something breaks, you can get parts for a ford faster and cheaper in bumble ****** east than you can for an E320! i think the best bet would be a car that can give you the most peace of mind while driving and good comort. keep us posted on how your search goes! good luck!
