Default Getting charged $600 for new ignition lock cylinder. Too much?

If you havent seen my last thread, i could not get my car started this weekend. After doing some troubleshooting, i ended sending the car to a local performance shop. They found out that the tumbler in my ignition lock cylinder was broken and said the part alone cost $289 and labor is another $279. So thats around $600 for replacing a lock clyinder.

Is this a fair price or am i getting ripped off?

You mean the cylinder where you put your key in to turn on the car? MSRP is only $180.

$279 for labor seems excessive to me. Try a local repair shop rather than a performance shop.

When you are unfamiliar with working on cars, you will be charged an arm and a leg from a shop.

I am not yet familiar with the sc setup, but typically, the tumbler and the electrical portion are separate parts.
last night I found a thread on here with a link to the shop manual, should have some info on testing/replacing the bad part. shouldn't be too hard, if you are willing to learn and be patient.

Yea replacing it isn't that hard. I've done countless of Toyota/Lexus and they all took under 2hr for a complete job. It's nicer that you don't have the immobilizer

Where do you see the lock cylinder only being $180 at? When i search i see it for $290+.

And the labor also includes them troubleshooting the problem. I told them what i thought, but they still probably spent time looking through stuff.

I know its expensive, but i just want to make sure im not overpaying by more than $100

Look at 69057A.

Call them to confirm, but most cylinder lock I've bought for Toyota/Lexus are around that price unless you have a car with an immobilizer.
