Default In a pickle... I would like your opinions..

As some of you may know, my sc300 was hit last week. My adjustor came by and gave me an estimate. After the estimate, he told me that there might be more to it than just the hood, radiator support, and headlights/high beam that were hit. He told me what I need to do is take it to a shop so they can take the front apart and see if there is any additional problems. (he said it might of hit the ac condenser??) I was fine with that until he said, if your total damages reaches 7500, then your car will be totaled. He told me as of right now its at 90% of being totaled. He then gave me the option of taking the estimate of $5433.00 and fixing it myself so it won't be totaled or take it to the shop and take that chance of being totaled. I've asked a couple of friends and family and they said if it totals then just buy it back. My thing is, I just don't think I would love it as much anymore with a salvaged title. What would you guys do if you were in my shoes? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Need more info first .... answer the questions:

What are you going to do with the car?

and

How long do you plan on keeping it?

Maybe just get a set of staggered rims and call it a day. I know the sc300 is not fast and as of right now, I could care less about the power. I plan on keeping it forever. I really don't see myself with another car.

Tell him if he can give you $6500 and you go try to fix it yourself. Otherwise, the $5K+ isn't that bad. I agree that you wouldn't want them to salvage it unless you plan to keep the car for a very long time. Even if you do, you definitely wont be able to sell the car to what you will eventually invest on it.

I understand that I won't get what I invested in it. You never do and that's pretty much goes for anything. Like I mentioned, just the thought of having it salvaged.. If I wanted a salvaged car, I would of bought one. Thanks for your input

I was in that same problem a month ago. Total loss, but it didnt seem like the damages were that bad but it was $4k worth of damage. I took the cash they gave me, kept the sc3 and ran. Got it fixed and still got some left over to play with lol

take the $, buy used parts in the classifieds section from people like Aliga.
the parts won't be all that much. take the rest of the $ and paint it. done.

granted, this may take a little more time than just bringing it to a body shop and having them fix it(& takng the chance of them totaling it)....But, this is the best way to go IMO.

Just don't let it get totaled, it will greatly decrease the value of it....

Man for $5400 you should EASILY be able to repair that. I would take the cash and have it fixed on my own. Don't let them salvage it!
