Some of you guys make an engine swap sound so easy.
If you are going to encourage him to do this tell him the honest truth.
This is a huge deal.
It is not easy or cheap.
You can be in for all sorts of hidden and unforseen issues that can be very costly.
How do you know the engine your buying is in good running order?
How many things can go wrong on a huge swap like this?
To say this can be done for $3000.00 dollars seems to be alot of wishful thinking.
I highly doubt it.
Dont do it unless your stock engine is giving you trouble or dies or unless your well off finacially.

I havent done any swaps on mine so i dont know first hand what it would cost.
Maybe you could do it for $3000.00 but i think most of the times it would be significantly more.
And i didnt mean to imply anyone was lying or fabricating, maybe you have a good mechanic or good mechanic skills yourself which this individual may not have.
And yes $3000.00 not including the engine or tranny---that sounds more like it.
All I am saying is an engine swap is nothing to take lightly.
And if anyone is going to encourage him try to tell him all the pro's and con's invloved with it.
I have not done it myself so the only advice I have is to be very careful and think on it.
To me someone fresh out of highschool ,unless has a rich family or has some sort of decent cash flow coming in should not go ahead with this swap.
That is just my opinion.
If he seriously wants more speed maybe slowly upgrading the engine he has would be the smart choice.
Anyways good luck any way you decide to go on it.
And just out of curiousity---why is it cheaper in florida?
Are automotive parts and or labour cheaper in that state for some reason?
Would like to hear more about that.
Thanks

It can be seen as cheaper in Cali and fla because that's were the engine import companies are. At least the majority. Also there are alot more shops in these states with expertise in this area of work than most others. I agree it's cheaper in fla and Cali. But as far as this thread goes.... 2uz with a supercharger and a v160... Game over

You can call it a down grade from 4.0l to 2.5l but not in terms of performance

I think because there a number of shops down there, next to California, Florida seems to have the greatest number of swapped SC and GS's. When I and my friend were researching on getting the swap done. We found a number of shops that would do the swap from $2300 w/ Single installed. Thats if you provide the parts. But that was 2 years ago, maybe more now.

Where I am I think it would be hard to find even one place that specializes in these vehicles and to find one that is able to do a swap for that cheap would be a very difficult.
Now I see why you guys take these swaps so lightly.
If i had a shop in my area like that im sure I would of done much much more to my car performance wise.
I have NEVER even seen a done up sc with any performance done to the engine in my area.
It is rare enough just seeing a stock one on the road.
I had to bring my car to 3-4 mechanics just to get my car repaired properly(had some electrical issues)--dealer was no help even.
Wish we had some of those specialists in my area.
Thanks for the response.

well i priced out my comming 1jz swap(in a sc400 also) at about $5,000. give or take..
just the bare bones swap. my rb20 cost $3,000.00 and of corse i did the labor myself..
the extra 2 grand for the sc is the harness work(appears to have a custom made sc harness is way more than for a nissan). $1000 vs $350.00
i have someone else (reputable) do my harness work because i can't solder for ****. and i don't want to fry ****.
you can find a 1jz swap for around $2,500 shipped(with r154) from ebay. thing is you are going to need a "rear sump" oil pan. and that will set you back $200-500. and for the 2jz thier cheaper(because there are tons of auto sets) i found one set with a 5 spd for $3,500.00 http://www.driftstl.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20997
havent done any hardcore searching. but iam going with a 1j because i already have a 2.0. i havent pulled the 1uz yet. it's big and has a ton of wires and vac lines. the jz engine i can work on better as i do all my work myself.. the thing is unless youre kind of mechanically inclined. buy a new car.. if you want to waste money on a shop for a swap that they MIGHT **** UP. then youre better off getting something new..(or giving youre money to me). iam not new to toyota's by any means.. just took a break for the nissan thing for a while..
but heres my beta estimates on what my swap will costs..
-motor set+ rear sump pan $3,000
-misc,ic hoses $1,000(approx)
-harness work $1,000.00
the bare bones. no interior or wheels yet, doing it myself..
