Similar thing just happened to my 1j but mine turned out to be toasted cylinders #2 & #5. Some one pulled my hoses from my boost controller at a car meet and on the drive home it over boosted and ran way too lean and there she went. I just got the head off last night. Since I need a new block, or some serious block work done, I think I'm just going to do the 2jz bottom like you want. Not trying to hijack your thread but I was looking around for helpful information on the mater. Good luck on your car.

Any more details you can provide? Or even better, how about some pics???
funny thats the same problem that made my 1j car stall on in the middle of the road. except my harmonic dampener was contacting the actual bolt that held in the tensioner and bent it. But the heli-coil thing is terrific. looking forward to getting it done and getting the car back on the road again!
