Valet Nightmare
#16
Those of you in LA may want to watch/record/TiVo the 11pm newscast of NBC4 this Friday night 02/18/05 - they are having another hidden-camera expose of valet parkers.
Of the 18 venues they tried, their hidden-camera car got pilfered 1/3 of the time. One valet that was confronted by the camera crew afterwards pulled out $118 out of his sock and gave it back to them before climbing into his Mercedes 500 and taking off (he was later fired).
Six times out of 18....pretty bad odds, and I don't think they improve much if you "pre-tip" generously - those Mercedes payments can be pretty steep, after all.

Guys,
I hate people I don't know driving my car in general. I don't care that they do it everyday, my car is my car. There are a lot of places I won't go for oil changes - just cuz I see the puds that work there and I don't want them anywhere near my car.
Thankfully there is not a whole lot of Valet Parking in Tulsa, but I will always drop my girl at the door and then go park myself.
I know my car is a lot less expensive than most cars - but people really don't know how to drive a car with a kit on it. I gave my girl lessons in our apt complex about driving with a body kit on before I let her drive my car!
Call me **** - but I like my car the way I left it.
Peace,
Jonny

I valeted for a few years in college, with a bunch of other friends from the same college, and it's my experience that you can bet every cent you have that when a nice, hot car comes in...
1. Someone is going to be pulling whole shots and beating the Pi$$ out of it as soon as you are out of earshot and sight...lol! You may think not, but hey, whatever it takes to keep you feeling calm about that "kid" with your keys in his hand...lol.
2. If something tempting is sitting out in the open, be it money, a gadget, parkway tokens even roaches from the ashtray...whatever it is...it's "probably" going to disappear...
...law of averages
That's why cars come with valet switches and valet keys! If it's worth something, leave it home or lock it up.
Just to clear things up about "myself"...as a valet...I never stole, but know plenty of others that have (some of them a lot)...but I have to admit that I punched it every chance I could...lol...Lincoln Mark VIII, Porsche, Benz, Vettes and so on (even though I valeted in "rich" areas...never any Lambos or Ferraris though...oh boy, I would've creamed my pants if one of those ever pulled up...lol)...anything with some Ballz got the hammer thrown down with no mercy...LMAO!
That's why I say F the Valet...park it yourself if you care 1 iota about your ride. Just my 52 cents...lol
Good thread!!!
