i've checked the fluids and they're fine. as for the shift linkage or anything else for that matter...no i haven't checked. it has to be something simple...i just know it. i"ll check the shifter and the linkage first thing tomorrow....uh where do i look for the linkage at?

Check the shift linkage. Jack the car up from the drivers side and put supports in. You need at least a foot of clearance to work. Slide under and look for the transmission leading to the drive shaft. You should see the lighter colored linkage. My guess is that it is gunked up or corroded at the movable arm, preventing proper shifts. WD40 and a wire brush to clean it, or if you want to be more thorough, you can remove it to clean and inspect it. There are two bolt holding it in place. One at the shifter and one at the tranny arm. Use liquid wrench, its kind of difficult to get in there. Here is a pic of the linkage removed and in ideal condition.
After cleaning and reinstalling it and test it out. It could be the shifter itself, doubt it though. Hope this helps.

see, it goes into reverse with no problem. just doesnt go into D,2,1. But yesterday it went into drive with no problem, but once i put it in park...IT WOULDNT ENGAGE INTO DRIVE!!! the shifter moves. i'll check on the linkage tomorrow morning. any other ideas....i was thinking something like a sensor or something out side the trany. it never showed sign of slipage. maybe even the filter cold be it......AWWWWH!
