Default Security over apperance..audio/SC related

Mods if this needs to be moved to the audio section for some reason, feel free. Just thought I would post it here since its directly related to the SC.

Now, for me being in Houston, and liking my window's intact I opted to try something out. This isnt anything new as I have seen it done before, but just a bit of concealment for my audio. Im still working on it, but here ya go:

Now, this has absolutely nothing to do with interior styling in anyway, and Im not going for an apperance award with my SC either. This is simply to conceal my in dash and mask it, and reducing the chance of busted windows..not to mention I had my stock headunit just sitting here collecting dust, so I put it to good use.

If anyone needs internal guts from the stock non-NAK unit, let me know.

Did you put just the radio face over the screen?

Exactly. Just working on a way to secure it in place. It just slides in place right now. I just dont like leaving my car parked with my indash showing for anyone to see, and other than my gauges (which may be moved to the glove box) the inside of my car now looks 100% stock.

This is awesome man! I wanted to keep my factory look when I park since I've got a big screen in my SC as well.

I thought about doing this as well but I became too lazy to do it. Cheers!

Thanks guys, although I have discovered an issue with doing this. Seems Toyota had a good laugh when they included a huge birds nest of wires behind the radio location. So sometime this week/weekend I have some wires to move around to make room for this to work.

But once its in, I will post up some pics with the interior completed

I know you already said it, but the finished install doesn't look too hot.
kudos on your plans. definitely a wise move.
I am curious, however, when you say you need to secure it, still, what for? the car won't move when parked.

also, do the ***** still pop out? you can use those as a handle to put it in place

No the ***** done pop out, but the tape deck door works as a handle perfectly. And about securing it, I was referring to when the car is parked. The stock face has nothing to support it, so it will simply sag, allowing a gap between the top of the stock face and lower section of the a/c control.

But again, Im not going for a "cool" look, I simply want the inside of the car to appear stock cause my SC is (or when finished with the engine) a daily driver again.

My windows are tinted, 35% in front is the darkest allowed in TX, the rest is 5%, but you can still see in the car. And if you look at the auto theft/crime rate here in Houston, LED's dont deter much of anything.

you don't have to Google Houston crime rate. Anyone grew up in Houston will second that. I had the same dilemma that I just decided to put the stock radio back in and use the 10 disc cd changer to hope that they won't break my window. Genius idea. do it!
