It really depends on the condition of your motor. It cost me about 1900 to rebuild mine... $800 for machine work and about 1,100 for parts, and thats with me pulling the motor and doing most of the work myself. We also rebuilt a na 2j at my shop last week, the bill came out to $2,550 parts and labor included... Most shops charge alot more for labor though.......

3500-4k is around the normal price. Depends how much of the work you do yourself, who you know and how good of a deal you can get.

You can buy an engine for that price, not a new one. You could buy a 1jz pulled out of a soarer or something for that price, but it wouldn't be new at all.

yes and than you have no guarantee of knowing how many miles are on that one---may end up having to get that one rebuilt anyways---

yes--rebuilding might be the best way to go

cool

good luck

Exactly, you are getting a used engine with who knows how many miles and who knows what could go when.

Getting an engine rebuilt is pretty much resetting the mileage on the engine to 0.

so buying a USDM 2JZ when my engine decides to die would be a good investment, rather than a rebuild?

??

What we are saying is that a rebuilt engine is better than buying an engine pulled out of a parted car. Its obviously going to be more expensive to get a rebuilt engine but what happens if you buy the USDM 2jz and it goes to **** since it has 150k on it and the oil was only changed 5 times or something?

Just buy a used engine, you can get perfect 2jz-ge's for 500$ all day long, Aliga has them for 500$ in perfect running condition, IIRC.

I recommend buying a new engine too just buy from someone trust worthy like Jhot or Aliga there very good for those types of thing and its a quarter of the price.

I think your answer also depends on what your plans are for the car.
Turbo in your future?
If so... mild or wild?

Search. This was on the fourms.

They run fine yes, but that doesn't mean they are the same as a professionally rebuilt engine.

It just depends what you want to do with the car.

Cost can vary greatly depending on how much work would need to be done on it. Decking the block, honing the cylinders, milling the head, cleaning up intake and exhaust ports, etc...while adding parts that need to be replaced can add up fairly quickly.

Used motors should be just as good as rebuilt motors in terms of being built. They were originally built by professionals as well. If you're talking about blue-printing a motor, that's a different story; then again a normal rebuild does not include blue-printing.
