unfortunately, a (used) 97+ kit only goes for 1200-1500, if prices here (which I consider high) are any indication:
saw two or three rear bumpers for 350, sideskirts w/hardware for 350 (for the pair), I fail to see the front bumper being worth the remaining 1500, even with lights and everything.

yes you cannot rate the value of your parts based on the dealers prices----no one is going to pay that.

and 16 inch rims are also not very highly sought after--no offense im just saying

if you try to sell it or part it out you are going to have to deal with mostly low ballers and you wont end up getting what you exp[ect.

if you love the car I think you must go ahead and try top do an engine swap.

good luck either way---im very sorry your going through these issues.

Yea the dealer gave you the price for new parts, and dealer pricing on top of that. Your parts arent new anymore.
I vote engine swap. Then if you must you can sell it..

Realistically with bad engine? Probably get lucky to get $2K for the whole car as is... Just 2cents... Not bashing or anything... Most people here would also probably buy a shine auto kit which is $1200 brand new. You sure would probably get more parting the whole car out piece by piece...

I still stand by what I said... Get a non-op and slowly fix it or to just not go through the hassle, take the loss and sell the whole car as is.... Good luck.

Sounds like your "mechanic" isn't inclined to be doing mechanical work. You'd be better off selling the car as a whole.

First off I want to say thank you for everyone's opinions so far. Also, I haven't come to the conclusion that I am going to part out the car. Apparently some people did not understand that $4400 is for new pieces from the dealer, and obviously I am not a dealer nor are my pieces new and unpainted. I never implied that I would attempt to collect $4400 for the kit. Benstoked, if the kit only consisted of a rear and front bumper, and side skirts I can see how it is hard for you to understand the price. But since the figure included the aforementioned pieces plus both taillights, both headlights, front grill, rear and front bumper foams, both door side moldings, both fog lamps, both rear side skirt extensions, and all of the hardware (which most people forget about) you can see how easily the estimated $2200 can be attained for a COMPLETE conversion. Look at aliga's sales, for the most part all of his items are half price of new. For instance, the side skirts are $319 each new. He's selling both for $350 shipped....I'm not reinventing the wheel here people.

It would be a shame to part the car out, looks pretty nice. you would definitely make more parting it out though. If you decide to part it out, I would put the wheels on bimmerforums.com someone will snap those up for an e30 or e36.

I would like to know what exactly those mechanics did for $2000.00.

I have overtime developed a hatred for mechanics in general---the dishonesty---the overcharging---the rude attitudes----the last time my lexus broke down i went through 4-5 mechanics-----and left a trail of burnt bridges behind me--lexus dealer being one of them-----dont let them get away with it man----u paid $2000.00 they should fix the problem, or give you your money back.

Im really sorry to hear that.

Good luck
