Default To Sell, Part Out, or Scrap??

I have a 1992 SC300. I started having engine problems (rough idle and occasional smoke) so I brought it to the shop. After $2000 worth of engine work that didn't fix it, the shop said that they believed that the piston or the cylinder was scratched and wasn't creating a seal. Instead of fixing it at that time I decided to buy a new car and work on it when I had a chance. Well that was 3 years ago and it's time to move it.

My dilemma is that it has a new coat of paint, the 97+ conversion kit, new rear and front lights, some new engine parts, new springs/shocks, 16" BBS 3 piece rims. The only body damage it has is when I had it parked for the past few years somebody backed into the passenger side rear quarter panel, and scraped the driver side fender (2 small dents).

I really don't want to scrap the car, but my question to you is to sell, part out, or scrap??

I would swap the engine, even a stock engine, it's not expensive at all. If you dont want to do that, then parting it out would be the next best thing.

Sell the car as is to someone who would value it and put a 1j or 2j in

I've seen a few engines on here for really cheap lately. If you have the ability to part out the car, then you could probably swap an engine too. I'd say if it's as nice as it sounds, you should think seriously about it. That rear quarter looks like you could pull most of it out with a toilet plunger and some pushing from inside the trunk. G/L

Thanks for the advice so far fellas. I think at this point I'm ready to get rid of it (even though I told myself I'd never sell it). Having 2 cars is just too much trouble, plus it would be nice to have the extra money from it. Exthultu, I haven't given any thought to the price on the kit yet. I need to figure out if that's the route I'm going to go first. If I do end up parting it out, I'll let you know.

Go get a stock longblock anyone wanna help him out? I have a short block you can have but i'm in Wisconsin. Someone should be able to hook you up with a long block

$2000 of work, and they didn't fix it? what the hell did they do? replace your blinker fluid?

I would engine swap. relatively cheap, and the car looks great. if it's the only thing really wrong...
don't part it out. I would understand if it were wrecked, or something, but it's just too nice to go that route.

you can probably find another motor on here for about $500,and bring her back to life,or part it out and make some decent profit

Get a non-op from the DMV then probably cancel the insurance on it for a while since it will just be sitting by your house. Rebuild the engine or buy another engine to build. The car looks really good. Thats probably what I would do although I understand about you could use the $$$. Sometimes we do get that feeling to just sell it rather than spend more time and $$$ on it. I think you could get a fair value for what you want with the car if you decide to sell as a whole.

I did some research and if I do the part out way, the MSRP on the '97 body parts conversion plus all of the front and rear lights is around $4400. If I were to sell everything as low as half price (even though everything is in PERFECT condition) that's $2200. I looked up the rims on ebay and they have a few sets starting at $1200, going up to $1500 . Then I could scrap what's left of the car, let's say $500. So that makes me think that if I sold the car as a whole I'd have to price it at $3900. Is it realistic to think that someone would by an almost 20 year old car with a non working engine for that much?

Lol...$4400 for OEM bumpers/side skirts plus headlights and tails? That's a little pricey..
