Default Toyota specialty tools

My friend and I are doing a swap on his car, however, reading the repair manual, there are a number of "special service tools" needed to do some of the tasks!

These tools includes Pulley Holder, Pulley Puller, Valve Spring Remover, SST for pushing in Cam seals and more! My question is, what did you guys use to take off the water pump pulley, the crank pulley and valve springs? We've already damaged the waterpump pulley by jamming something in the holes of the pulley to stop it from turning, now we have to look for a pulley! Lesson learned! lol

Thanks guys

Its easiest to take off the water pump pulley if the serpentine belt is on as it keeps the pulley from turning too much while you loosen the nuts. Also, try an impact wrench. The nuts shouldn't be all that tight though.

crank pulley = use the starter method and a crank pulley tool rented from kragen / autozone

x100 on getting an impact gun. Turn my 4 hour suspension job into 1 hour. I bought a craftsman impact and air wrench set at sears for $45 bucks,

I second that method too. If you cant get the crank bolt loose, then do this

1. slide socket onto bolt, then rachet into socket.
2. place long cheater bar over the ratchet
3. place the cheater bar under the car frame somewhere, where it wont turn
4. BUMP the starter.
5. Bolt loose
6. Drink a beer
7. Drink another beer

i guess i forgot to mention, the engine is on a stand with torque converter off... so if I crank the crank pulley, it just turns. Same with water pump pulley, if i use the impact gun, it just spins...

You need to hold the pulley with a belt or tool.............I kid you not I used and impact gun and an old dress belt to hold the pulley.

Put the pump in a bench vise

wrap the belt around the pulley and hold it tight and you the impact gun

Actually I rebuilt countless cars from the ground up without Impact guns and only used hand tools .
