Default How to make exhaust quieter?

I have an aftermarket exhaust on my car, the previous owner removed stock resonators and mufflers, and put just pipe instead of resonator and then aftermarket mufflers. The car gets pretty loud in 2k rpm zone, below or above that mark is fine. How can I make the car quieter? Should I replace it with stock exhaust or just go to muffler shop, and add some aftermarket resonators? Would it help?

Adding resonators will help out.

So should I just go to the muffler shop, and ask them to weld in some resonators?

Unless you have a certain look or sound you're going for. That would be the quickest way of getting it done, probably the cheapest too.

I want a little bit louder (deeper) sound than stock, and no drone at 2k rpm. Probably the cheapest way is to pick up stock exhaust from junk yard but stock is too quiet...

I figure if you have resonators put on and keep the aftermarket mufflers on it should give you a nice, louder sound over factory. Not sure if it will fix the drone though.

I just added some aftermarket resonators on mine yesterday. It quitened alot but yet still gave me a rumble still. It was the sound that I was looking for. I have straight pipes from headers back to stock mufflers.

Resonators will help. What kind of aftermarket exhaust is it?

You should find out whats the exhaust brand, most of them have different distinct sound, you might be able to find a sound clip of the exhaust with res on

Custom exhaust, the custom pipe starts from stock cats and goes all the way to the back, to magnaflow mufflers.

That's similar to my old setup. I had a 2.5 inch custom Y-pipe from the cat to dual Magnaflow mufflers. While it was loud if I hit the gas, it was pretty quiet on an SC300. I'd imagine it being a lot louder on the 1UZ. Try a resonator on it and see if that helps.

Went to muffler shop today, and they said that resonators won't help all that much, and it's better to go all stock if I want quiet. Well I think I will keep it as it, it is much quieter than straight pipe that I had on my SC3 lol. I will make a video today of the exhaust sound just so you guys can check it out.
