If it makes panties drop then leave it on.

but didnt you know, Toyota has a whole department of magicians that cast magical spells on every car that leaves the factory. Thats why our cars last so long and work so much better.

Ive heard this argument so many times its making my head spin. I wonder what the guys at Toyota were thinking when they invented the ect button, "aw it make americans think they caar go faster, hahaha stupid americans"

This is what the manual says, "2. Set the driving pattern selector switch to the NORMAL
position.
Your transmission has a driving pattern selector switch which
allows you to select either “NORM” or “PWR” to suit your
driving condition. For ordinary driving, Lexus recommends that
you use the NORMAL position to improve fuel economy.
3. For more powerful acceleration and sporty driving, use
the POWER position.
In the POWER position, the “ECT PWR” light in the instrument
cluster is on and the transmission is shifted up at higher vehicle
speeds and shifted down more responsively than in the
NORMAL position."

Thats exactly what I said earlier,

The manual clearly states that the power button is worse on gas mileage.

Not better.

Not better.
If you are in power mode you are going to usually be in the gas more. It is a self fulling prophecy.

MattStar, funny you should say that, I was kinda thinking the same thing. Hmm, I wonder what the engineers thought about this button. Like "Those stupid americans, they think that this little button does anything." It is like the turbo button on old computers. The fact is, the NORMAL mode is retard mode, and people will psycologically drive less aggressive than in Power mode.

They must have done psyc evals on the button.

Computers that monitor MPG do the same thing. People are more aware of their MPG, so they tend to get better. I own a Prius. I get 45MPG on average if I do not monitor my data. If I monitor the data I get 55MPG. This is a very similar trait when discussing the ECT button.

I have a 95 1st Gen GS300, running a single turbo 2JZ-GTE. It's not close to stock.

Just call it the "Overdrive Disable" button and it will all make sense.

Do you see any difference in shift speed? Same amount of throttle, looks like it just shifts at higher rpm but that's about it....

Unless you put it on a dyno and run back to back, you may or may not be able to tell the difference.

Also as stated before, there are many other factors involved, fuel being one of the biggest.

Disconnect your knock sensor and you will see a much bigger difference between the two modes.

I do have to agree with you about ignition timing though. It does change.
