yeah, they use a percentage of the cars value to base totalling it on, I forget the percent. I personally would look into a wide body kit, and paint, see what kind of money you can get from them if they total it and what you can get your car back for, see if you can get the parts, installed and painted for what you get.
When they try to settle, make sure you do a search of craigslist and autotrader and find the most expensive comparable sc's you can in a 500 mile radius to use as bargaining power.

I agree! The SC's horn is loud, I don't care how rude or obnoxious it is to honk at someone when they're backing out and don't see you coming...The trouble is worth it! and a lot better than having to deal with the drama of a fender bender.

Damn Bro sorry to see this it shouldn t be totalled as clean as your car was. If they total it buy it back a good body man can smooth that right out atleast its white. make sure you go to someone reputable good luck!

If I can find a way to retrofit a train horn onto an SC (Like what typical SoCal bros do on their lifted trucks) and conceal it. I would! Those things are horrendously and obnoxiously loud! Hehehe!

Thanks for the kind wishes people. Widebody is definitely out of the question because wheels that fit correctly will be another ~$2000. I'm getting the estimate done tomorrow morning at the same shop that did my front bumper. Insurance is saying if the value of the damage is >60% of their determined value it will be a loss. It's going to be close from the way things are looking at the moment.

JDM Muscle has (had?) one hooked up on his SC IIRC.

this can be fixed w/o a doubt. dont sweat it. it sucks but certainly can be worked out.

that is where i have doubts. i use to work at a body shop and to get that part right they will have to chop it off and get you a new piece.

Well I got the estimate this week and its ~$5000 to fix it properly, -- replacing the rear quarter and door. My shop will only repair it using parts from the southern US (FL, CA, etc.) as they do not recommend used Canadian parts that have been through ~15 winters of salt and I agree. The more logical decision may be to let it go and end up with a newer SC.

I went to NY state today with the intent of buying a '97 SC400. In person I could tell there was a lot of paint work had been done to it so it, and the interior was mediocre so it was a no-go. Really a shame because it photographed well and was mint mechanically. Seen a few other ones locally, but nothing comes close to the condition of my car.

I'm starting to get the urge to fix what I have because its good otherwise. I know the frame wasn't affected and the door still lines up and closes perfectly so if the quarter is done properly it shouldn't be too bad.
