He's right. Getting anything to go fast is all power to weight.
It's been proven you can make an SC produce all the power you'll ever need so why suffer all the drawbacks from putting on lighter parts?
An F14 Tomcat weighs in at 48,000 lbs It has so much power it carries just in fuel the equivilent of six SC300s and still hawls ****.
It's just a matter of power or money, however you want to look at it.
Or... you can just strip it down but then whats the point of it being a lexus??? it may as well look like this beutiful example of a stripped race ready SC400. Ahahaahaha!
CF Hood, cf doors? lighter brakes? Homie please.

Finally done remodeling the house, moved in....
So now I'm revisiting this idea.maybe I can finally get this project in gear.
I'm obsessed with weight-to-power ratios.
I figure an sc400 could easily do
3150 lbs. 225 rwhp for 14:1
But how much would it take to get to a more track ready
2875 lbs. 240rwhp for 12:1 ?
I got 17" wheels and tires already.
I'll go single exhaust
Gut the interior.
Trim the door bracing.
W58 as per my OP.
No cage. Single race bucket.
Cf hood.
Minus AC.
Minus ABS?

I remember Gunner posting back when I had my pristene 95 SC400. Now that Ive got a project 93 SC4 im removing all the parts I was afraid to do on the high dollar car and can give some weights. Have done AC & sunroof delete so far, seats next. Also removed rear seats and subwoofer and CD player.

Heres an idea. BUY A LIGHT CAR. Or start cutting away and still be unsatisfied with the results. The SC needs three bases covered, big power, big brakes, big wheels/tires. Though not that simple, a balance can still be achieved with fat cars like these to put a **** eating grin on your face.

A w58 SC400 satisfies a list of criteria for me.
RWD
Looks good.
Unique, yet dirt cheap. Easily find one for under $1500
and since they are all auto, not track/teenager abused.
Easy to get to 15:1 (weight/power)
while staying CA smog legal.
and basically stock.
Easy to find pick-a-parts.
A great, lightweight overbuilt, oversquare engine
that is dirt cheap, but so easy to love.
Favorable track-to-wheelbase ratio.
More on the long side.
N/A, relatively reliable, non-interference.
Easy to find performance parts.
Double Wishbones.
2+2. I got 2 little boys.
I know there are more I forgot, but basically
there are many other cars I've looked at, but I keep coming back here.

By the way,
Cars I've owned the last 15 years...
RX7
CRX
240SX
Miata
AE86
I've done the lightweight thing before.
Now I'd like to try some manual tranny Japanese V8 action.

So the boys are going to like the gutted interior and single race bucket?
Keep it simple. If its a family car, keep it practical. Keep it safe. Doing a w58 unto itself is going to completely change the car. Start there, with a nice clutch and light flywheel.

Easiest way to drive under 1000lbs.
On a seriouse note, if you want to do a complete semi streetable lightweight sc, I would start wit the body. Jegs sells alluminum floor pans that all you would have to do is pop rivit the new peices into car.
Another thing is drivetrain. I'm not sure if its alluminum already but I'm sure they make a cf driveshaft.
