Default Please help install HID bulbs on my SC

Hi all.

I am planning to install those HID-look-alike bulbs (will probably use Sylvania ones or the PIAA) on my 97 SC300.

Can you guys tell me which bulbs I should get for my low and high beam, and fog lights (I am talking about the numbers e.g 9005, 9006 and etc)?

Also, can you explain how to take the old bulbs out and install new ones? Do I have to take out the whole headlight units to do this? Is it hard??

I"d really appreciate your help!
Thanks.

PS> pictures of my car coming up soon.

Hey man. I installed low beams for my 400 and the size fitting number is a 9006. I got 85 or 80 watt bulbs. The stock bulbs are 55w. Be careful because after about 10 months I noticed my headlight went out. I thought it just burned out so when I went to check I took out the bulb and saw that the housing that connects the bulb to the wires thats connected to the car were fried. The plastic was all melted and the connector pins were all burned. So right now I put the stock lights back in until I can figure what to do. If u do decide to get new bulb some how make sure they wont melt the connectors or anything else for that matter. For changing the bulbs its real quick and easy long as you have somewhat skinny hands. All you have to do if see where the low beam bulb is and turn it down for the right side and pull is out and press this lil plastic piun thing and pull the bulb out from the connector and same with the other side except u turn the brown peice up and pull out. High Hope that answers your questions

welcome to CL to you both. As for the lights. Just get the Sylvania Cool Blue headlight (if u want fake HID look). Just be sure to get the 9006 bulb. Don't go past the wattage of ur stock bulb as that WILL fry ur wires, etc. Hope this helps.

BTW: Jimmit, look in the Club Meetings section under teh SE forum. We r in the works of planning a FL meet.

just go to like autozone, pep boys, advanced auto parts, etc.

BTW: When putting the lights in, wear a sock (or something similar) around ur hand, b/c u DON'T want to touch the light blub w/ ur bare hands, as oil will ge ton the bulb and when it heats up, it will explode

Hey sphere,
I know its not a auto store, but you can get cool blue GE 9006's at Wal-Mart (2 for 19.95 or something like that). Its what I did and the bulbs havent proven to be too powerful to melt the wires and look good enough (for me anyway) to pass as hids. Theyre a lot easier on the eyes than hid's as well. Good luck man, it shouldnt be too hard for you to put the lights in by the way, twenty minutes?

Please don't buy the Cool Blues, they are painted bulbs that are dimmed down and marketed to the ricer crowd. Buy the Sylvania Silverstars or Philips VisionPlus. Your low beam is 55w 9006 and your high beam is 65w 9005, but you can fit a 9005 in both without a problem. For a 9005 in the 9006 socket, just use wire cutters to remove all the socket teeth and plug it right in.

I got the sylvania cool blues a little over a month ago. They don't look ricey at all. To be honest, I can't even see any hint of blue in them when they are on at night. They are a crisp clean white. They look better than stock, but I don't think that they seem dramatically different. I actually liked the look of my 80w bulbs better, but at least I know that the Cool Blues won't melt anything. So overall, I'd say that the Sylvania Cool Blues are a good buy. I got mine for $30 at pep boys.

On another note: I'm currently in the process of cleaning, sealing, & polishing my headlights (hopefully no more condensation!) If my car is all opened up now, I figure I might as well change some more bulbs. I want to get new bright white parking light bulbs (they're 5watts, right?) And get new white bulbs for my clear sidemarkers (Anyone know the wattage on these?) Anyone who has had good results w/ these I would appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks,
-Johnny
