J30 vs SC300 vs SC400
I have a 1993 Infiniti j30. MY car's original 0-60 time is 8.3, thats what reviews says. I have 186k miles on it, and It feels like I can do a 7.5 or so. It has a 5 speed automatic transmission. My sister's 1995 maxima is definately a lot smoother and feels like it could hand me my ***. We never actually raced. I really want an sc400 because of its looks and v8, but you all keep saying how slow it is. Will I be dissapointed in it's performance when I buy it? I was thinking about the sc300 and the turbo, but Im 17 and I dont know if I would rather spend the 5k on wheels and kit and exhaust.

I've had them all...
I was very happy with the J30t I had, till a Texas flood decided I'd rather have the cash to buy a '97 SC300. Going from the J30t to the SC seemed to 'up the anti' on the street though ;] All-of-a- sudden I was Noticed by other sporty cars. Soon the small amout of extra oomph the SC had just wasn't enough. Sold the '97 SC300 put a little money in the bank, and got a '93 SC400. ..Love at first petal-push! I know there are faster, but the smooth V8 and highway juice have gone a long way to muting the thirst. Now, if I can just get wet again... a '98 with 290 Hp sounds quite refreshing ']

Whoa, I had better gas mileage in my J30t than I got out of my SC300, sounds like you need a tune-up at least. As for the other, the J30 was as dependable as the Lexus I've owned and the HP is similar (210hp for J30, 225hp sc300). The big difference is in style. The J30 was a "bold" concept when it came out, unfortunately, its starting to look dated (last new one rolled off in '97). The SC's on the other hand are a classic shape that didn't stop production till 2000. It's further enhanced by a similarity in looks to the newly designed Jaguar XK8 that didn't come out TILL '97. The SC will hold its value longer and will still turn heads i.e. "be a classic" long after the J30s are rusting in a field somewhere. One weak area on the J30s are the rear ends. It's one of those problem areas like the steering pumps on SCs. If your talking about upgrading the J30, you'll probably need to look at the tranny too. It's my opinion (and should be taken as such) that you are better off saving up for an SC. If you want to build a street racer, go for the 300 and get a good job '] If you want a great ride and enough oomph to shut-down 80% of the poseurs out there with some moderate tweaking, go for the SC400.

..been along time ago. I beleive it had to do with the drive shaft and U-joints connections to rear end at high speeds. You'll have to find a j30 site for better details. Still, putting expensive upgrades on a 189k engine could be pushing it in general. Your call .., Good luck

Get a SC300 and spend the $5Gs on the Turbo and SUSPENSION. Get the wheels next (save up and do something decent) and get the kit LAST.
Don't be a all show no go...especially since you seem to be worried about speed...

Boy..., are you on the wrong board. Not many guys on a Lexus board are into Pimp Wagons. In fact, it lowers the value of the model everytime one hits the street. Also, better check the laws in your state before adding the lights. In Texas, the lighting you are describing is termed a "distraction hazard" and will get you a ticket. My son had the ground effects lighting on his Hyundai (more suitable car for a 'light show ') and has been ticketed twice, once in Houston and once in Wichita Falls. He was told if he received a third one they could impound his car. He doesn't turn them on anymore (he says '). I agree with the above, show some class and get the GO before the SHOW.
