removing snorkle. Whats involved?
I noticed many of you remove the snorkle for intake. I dont even know that that means. Is there an article I can read or can somebody in Lamens terms tell me how to do this process. Thanks

It's the air intake snorkel leading into the airbox, passenger side, the inlet is under the headlamp. To remove the snorkel (it's a long matte Black ABS plastic 'shnozolla'), 3 bolts have to come out, one by the radiator, one just to the inside of the headlamp, and one under the headlamp area, so you'll want to pull that lamp so you can have easy access. That requires you to remove a couple of screws from the wheelarch splash guard and push it aside, then remove two 10mm gold nuts at the outside corner of the lamp with a long extension and a swivel attachment, then one bolt at the top of the lamp, by the radiator. Obviously unplug the three bulbs as well. Easy as pie. Let me know if you need more info.

Well, if you are like me, and have a little bit of bad luck, you might have a problem. I go off and lose both of my 10 mm sockets, and my 10mm open end wrench. There is one single bolt underneath that was a huge PIMA.

The stock snorkle is not all that restrictive, its the area that the snorkle opens at that is. Opening up that area draws more air from the bumper area. Slight increase in sound, but its more air for my panel KN.

Yeah, it's definitely louder, you can hear the air sucking in. Also, at least in my case, and another person in CL, noticed that removing the snorkel definitely adds a little power up top, but that a low-speed bog seemed to result also, I found it very aggravating and replaced the snorkel, and instead opened up the top of the airbox. These cars are very well engineered and gain little hp from these types of mods. For example, the oe inlet into the t-body already has a tuned resonant chamber, replacing the inlet with an aftermarket unit has been shown to actually lose power in some cases. A conical filter will flow more than a panel, but you now lose a pressurized enclosure, and protection from heat soak, unless you build a new enclosure for the cone filter.
