Question Pervious owner painted the taillights...pics and Q

Looking to restore them to stock.

What method would work best to remove the paint? Is there a solvent I can use to get it off that won't damage the plastic?

I'd try a little paint thinner on a terry cloth be careful not to get none around the lights

Looks like its on the outside to me, they dont have the plastic shine. It really depends on what they painted them with as to what might cut it and not damage the plastic. I kind of like them.

Well my buddy smoked his tails and at a shop they put clear coat over it. I had to sand with 320 because there was so much clear. What I'm trying to say if it has a clear laquer thinner won't work if I were you try 1000g on the da then buff it out.

They look good....from far away. The paint is on the outside and makes them look dull. Also in the first pic you can see where someone either started to wipe it off and stopped, or they never completed it properly.

The 2nd pic makes them look really nice, but even in that pic you can see the corner that is messed up.

I will see how I like them stock, I may decide to go back and red them out the right way later.

So, paint thinner is ok on the plastic, and if that isn't enough, wet sand with it?

Thanks for the responses guys.

exactly.. thinner... if no go thinner + wet sand 400-800 grit dontgo lower or ull get the red off but have a hazy look
if you do end up having to sand (hope u dont make life easier lol) id go through with 1500 adn then 2000 grit at the end to get a cleaner look and itll be less hazy
hope it all works out for u
