if i had a 97+ i would call and find a vvti swap ( 1j of course) is almost a drop in swap since everthing is closer to that year adn u get 300hp and 2400rpm

the vvti block is also weaker than a non-vvti ge block. this will lower the max hp you can safely put down, but the good news is that it is plenty enough still to have a mean street car.
The only real weak link in the vvti block I've seen so far are the rods. Just replace the rods with non-vvti ones and it's good. As far as tuning and making lots of power.... it's true, it's difficult or takes alot of cash... or both I believe.
I'm using a vvti block with non vvti pistons, rods and head.
