Replaced the left hand coil pack.. again!!! (Drivers side in US but passengers side in Australia)
Symptoms, no torque overheated catalytic converters (at least that's what the idiot light was showing on the dash)
Changed it and wow I have got power again, perhaps even better than before it completely failed.
One last thing to note, It only failed twice and on both occasions it was over 32 degrees centigrade 90 Fahrenheit. Second time it failed it didn't recover so I replaced it.

If you are ever considering purchasing new coils for your own peace of mind of them inevitably failing again, get in contact with Rutherford & Bond Toyota in NZ they sell them new for $86 AUD!

Replaced both coils on my 93 SC 400. Man what a difference. I've been trying to solve some little issues like rough idle, hesitation during acceleration. The car has never run so strong. Highly recommend you replace aging coils. Worth every dime.

Same here, night and day difference. All the commonly recommended things made incremental improvements in the typical SC400 hesitation issues, but it was the coils that eliminated every last trace. Other than no-cost things like cleaning the IAC, it really should be the first replacement part that everyone tries.
