^ Looks like you removed the black plastic vent and duct taped over the opening to down below?

Has anyone figured out exactly what purpose they serve? I assume it has something to do with relieving pressure for fuel tank safety, but that's about all I've got. Inside the black plastic unit is two rows of hinged flaps that are normally closed and swing open easily, such as from a pressure change. Hopefully, leaving just one in place in your case is sufficient for whatever venting they accomplish.

I think the the vents are to relieve cabin pressure. They open when you close the doors or trunk. Every car I've owned has them in the trunk (with or without a fuel tank in there).

That makes sense. I've never seen them in my other cars, but maybe I haven't dug deep enough.

They take up an awful lot of space for such a simple device, but it would be tough to make them much smaller without reducing the volume of venting and/or allowing the elements in from below.

I only had one on the passenger side which I always thought was a little strange. I removed it also when we did the stereo. Only thing that happens is it makes the doors a little harder to shut. Other than that no problem.

Drove her 999.2 miles round trip from Chino, CA to Tucson, AZ and back. Drove like a champ, averaging 80-100 mph and even getting up to 125 for a while with the A/C on the whole time blowing ice cold. LOVE THIS CAR. Did I mention I have 252,000 miles on the clock

capacitor rework today on a 92 manual ECU. Upon visible inspection, most of the caps were not leaking and only 2 or 3 had leaked. No lost traces on the PCB so that's always good. 225,000 miles

I'm going to wash it today. I let it sit outside overnight and it turned grey from all of pollen around my area.
