well, at least as far as in the USA goes, SC300 to soarer, MAYBE, since most people don't know soarer is a toyota vehicle...but Lexus to Toyota...under no circumstances.

If you can't tell the difference then why do you drive a Lexus?

You missed my point but o.k.
Toyota and Lexus have the same management at the top corporate level. Same with Acura and Honda. Those "seperate" divisions were created for name brand associated Americans. I drive a lexus SC 300 because of the quality. Ride, performance, and reliability. I also drive a honda because of it's ride, quality and reliability. Of course the lexus is noticeably different. I will never buy another car below par. MB has managed to remain abreast of Mopar as AM has Ford - this all goes a lot deeper than many would think.
Chrysler+Mitsubishi
Toyota+GM
GM+Isuzu
Mitsubishi+GM+Ford+Mazda
Ford+Mazda
VW+Audi+Porsche
I could go on forever. I work for mitsubishi. I could lift the hood open the door on almost any new Ford, Mazda, Honda, Chrysler, Chevy, Subaru, etc. and I can show you a diamondstar somewhere. Feul injectors, to ignition coils, to fuel sensors, starters, alternators, forget about it. I get frowns from the old Japanese upper mangmt when they see me pulling up in a Toyota Soarer (as they see it), because Toyota refuses to do business with our company. Japanese business ethics are different - it goes home at the end of the day (if there is one). I know none of this really matters. Guess I'm bored.

Toyota = Lexus. In case some haven't noticed, Toyota makes luxury cars. The Toyota Soarer, Toyota Celsior, and Toyota Aristo in Japan are built with Lexus SC430, Lexus GS430, and Lexus LS430 on the assembly lines and the JDM Toyota-badged models actually have many more features and performance capabilities than the Lexus export equivalents. It's the kind of "cheapo" stigma and "economy car" typecasting I see here that forced Toyota Motor Corp to create a whole new American division called Lexus. Same reason why Mercedes Benz refuses to sell it's $15k cars in the United States. People would reject MB as a prestigious luxury brand overnight (even though nothing has really changed about the company and their cars). Give me Toyota Soarer badges and I'll GLADLY wear them on my car.
Awj, I'm with you! I've had a lot of experience in the consumer electronics industry and the same applies there. Sylvania builds for Mitsubishi, Panasonic for Denon, Sharp for Pioneer, Fujitsu for lots of companies, etc. Hell Sony only builds about 10% of their own products....

I guess you could follow the argument about rebadging cars to the ultimate level and say that all Lexus badged cars are rice.... Toyotas rebadged as Lexus.......
Corporate Rice..........
I have to admit therefore that I too am a 'ricer', having rebadged my Toyota Soarer as a Lexus Soarer........ I dont know if I can live with the shame.......

and the funny thing, since most people in the US have no clue about lexus models not existing in japan, they probably assume soarer is a standard US lexus vehicle.

Who cares if it's badged a Toyota Soarer or Lexus SC***... it's essentially the same car, and they basically have the same mechanical specs anyway (disregarding the TEMS and 1JZ), the engines are basically the same and both share the same platform, just marketed differently for their respective markets (Japan and USA).

On the topic of what badges look best, I own a metallic silver (pure silver, not the platinum colour) Soarer, so what badges do you think would look best? Gold or chrome??! Might sound stupid but I saw a met. silver Soarer with gold badges and they really didn't look bad at all...
