Talking Intro and Project SC

Well I used to be a member of a few motorcycle boards, but since then have moved on to finally pick up the car I've always wanted. Just picked up a 93' SC300 with a few goodies in it. However, aesthetically it is still very rough. I'm hoping for this car to be a nice little project for me to fix up over the year; but I'm getting interior work done this weekend, and paint over the summer.

Anyways just wanted to drop in and introduce myself, I'm located in SoCal and attend CSULB. This car is going to be my weekender, I have a decent Pontiac as my DD. This SC300 is also my first stick car, however I caught on quick since riding a motorcycle. So far no stalls with this aggressive clutch.

If you guys have any suggestions for the car, shoot them my way and give me some inspiration currently my plans are to look stock and remain somewhat of a luxury sleeper once I'm done.

Sorry about the pics, thought that maybe click-able thumbnails would be better than some huge pics.

Also if there's anything I should watch out for with the car, I'd love to know. I've been reading as many threads as I can to boost up my knowledge of the car

Welcome to CL.

Everything you want an answer to is in here, just use the search button.

There are several things.

Cluster needles and back lights
Upper and lower control bushings
Blackened out LED display
Cracked center vents
Worn struts
Weak brakes, upgrade them to LS or TT Supra
Popping doors as they open
Cloudy and moisture in headlights
Bad ignition coils on the 400
Fuel ECU going bad, have to bypass on the 400

Thats all i can think of right now. anyone else want to chime in?

Welcome to ClubLex. Congrats on the 1J SC. I was eyeing that for a while on Craigslist and seriously considering picking it up but recently lost my job. How do you like it so far?

Personally I love it, still getting the hang of it and can't wait until I get that interior all fixed up this weekend. I couldn't believe the price the guy was selling it at too. So far the engine seems to run strong with no problems, but I'm having a mechanic friend of mine check it out tomorrow just in case; so I can make the needed adjustments.

I wasn't too fond of the color in the beginning but it's starting to grow on me. It is pretty unique, I wonder why the previous owner decided this color; but sadly it looks like they just sprayed over the previous color with very little prep. The paint job isn't that bad, but I can tell in a few spots where the original color was probably a grey-ish tone.

While fixing up the interior of my car I installed a brand new shift bezel with shift boot. However, I knew my stick wasn't exactly centered where... when moving it into First and Second gear it was getting close to the E-Brake. However it proved no functional issue and shifted smoothly. Yet, now that I have the bezel on, it added about another inch or half an inch of plastic to the area. So now when shifting into First and Second I hit the plastic shift bezel, It's not knocking it hard or putting too much pressure, it all still works. However, I know eventually I will crack the bezel or center console.

Is there any way that I can easily move over my gearbox? I'm a bit of a beginner to all this car stuff (was a sportbike rider, but sold the bike for the SC) So I've been doing everything following the awesome DIY threads. But is there any easy way I can move it over and center it? Apparently the swap was done and runs smoothly but I noticed this minor issue.
