Default Second blowout, same wheel, and inner sidewall... WTF

The last time it happened, I had a leaking tire and the inner sidewall just busted. This time, I don't know. Driving home from work and 3/4 way through, I felt a lot of vibrations. I work in the mall and was parked the whole day and thought to myself... did someone try to steal my wheels? (18" G35) But thought again and said they couldn't have since I have wheel locks on... I started hearing something falling apart so I drove slow. I thought some lug nuts were falling out but it was just chunks of rubber.

Its late and I tried taking a picture with my phone.

The rubber is still in intact with the wheel... just the sidewall fell apart.

Driver rear, both times.

Any idea on how this could have happened? Or am I just on a streak of bad luck? Bridgestone Potenzas were on there both times.

I did buy them used. They came with the wheels... I've been on them for 3~ months. I changed the front two because they were worn but left the back two... Still have one left... Hope they don't crap out on me.

My spare is on there and who knows how old those are...

Sure you wernt low on air and broke down the sidewall? Low profile tires are sometimes hard to see low on air, especially on the lighter rear.

The fact that these were both used tires would make me want to consider if the previous owner fatigued them by driving for extended amount of time/miles with them under-inflated. Apart from that, do you have any problems with the suspension on that corner of the car? ... like was it ever in an accident where something could have gotten messed up?

What wheels are they exactly? I know you said 18" G35, but which ones? How wide are the wheels? What tires are you running (size and brand/model)?

^^ Klaus, you thinking he's got some rubbing going on? I don't think the 18" G wheels weren't all that wide nor extreme in offset, but maybe he's got a bolt or something sticking out where it shouldn't be.

I checked for wheel well for anything protruding and nada. They are 18x8.5 in the rear and I was running 255/35s. Also, pretty sure I wasn't low on air because I did get an oil change recently and they checked the air in the tires.

Hmm yeah that's correct tire/wheel fitment although the profile is a little low- a 40 series tire will wear a lot better. I think it's most likely luck of the draw man. OR maybe there's someone in the road on your usual route that your tire is picking up (sharp object or something)

They way the tire is seperated in a ring is typical of a tire ran low or flat, a blow out is not all around like that unless you drove on it a ways after it blew.

That's pretty weird. Maybe something in the road is causing it or could it be an alignment issue?

I did drive it after because I didn't know it blew. Like I said.. I felt vibrations and just drove slower and didn't know til I got home which was about 4 miles.

Anyway 17" are 6 spoke, the 18" are 7 spoke, the 19" are semi-mesh forged.

18x8JJ +30

I ran 225/40 (Starting to stretch), 235/40 (Square), & 245/40 (Bulge)
Never rubbed except for a bit in the front. Just some info I thought I would share.

Also tires chunk/break off at high temps.
It was cold. My wheels are staggered. 8" wide in the front and 8.5" in the back.

Tires blow out like that from loss of air pressure. Somehow you where low and it blew out. Same thing happened to me. Buy a new tire(s), check the inner wheel bead and make sure there is no corrosion which will allow air to escape from the side walls.

Some times it happens when the side walls get weak and grow a bubble which would make it blow out with alot of stress.
