Exclamation Lextech sent me this.. please explain

Here’s the message I received from Lextech. I’m excited to get my cluster etc. back BUT I may need a little guidance. The message (for the most part):

"Red is ground. Put it on the radio bracket when you install. Green is switched ignition accessory positive. Put it on the switch wire of the radio harness that comes active when the car is on. You can use a voltmeter to find it, or the center wire of the cig plug is also switched positive.”

I understand the ground wire, but can somebody please explain the green wire. Where do I put it exactly, pics maybe? THANKS!

EDIT: spelling, ha.

The green wire needs to go to a switched 12v. So like he says in the message, you need to tap into either one of those wires, where you'll get 12v when the key is turned to ACC, and where you should get 0v when the key is off and out. The cig lighter is the easiest, since there should only be 2 wires on it, ground and a switched 12v, usually the lighter colored wire is live and darker is ground. i.e. black = ground, white = 12v.

Just use a voltmeter to test and make sure you got the right wire.

okay. so i would just throw the green wire in between this little piece right( back of cig lighter)? the white plastic piece connects to a red wire.

Yea me too. It’s not a big deal though, it’s just attaching a few wires. I just want to be sure I get it right the first time.

A red ground wire?

Be sure to send up some pictures when it's installed!

why not contact Lextech directly? Are you 100% sure than the red wire is ground?

You can cause serious damage soon as you connect the wire if you don't know 100% what your doing.

good enough...read this http://www.techguys.ca/howto/power.html

If you dont have a multi-meter in hand, you shouldn't do anything.

What are we installing here? The dash cluster? What year dash? And I always thought it was just plug and play and LexTech just changed the colors. What did you have all done?

multi-meters are fairly cheap, easy to use and extremely useful. I picked up a basic digital one at Lowes for $20 a while back. I'd just go pick one up.
