Slot next to radio?

If you go the Lexus dealer - -
this is really dumb - -
they will tell you that the cupholder is not available for the '92 and '93 (and '94?). Well, it wasn't standard on those years so it doesn't show in the parts book for those years.
well, Duh - -
Just ask for a cupholder for a '95, and tell them the interior color, and hey no problem, $35-55 depending on dealer greed.
If the back of the little slot has no holes, the little spacer at the back will have to come out, and that means taking off the console surround piece. Good pictorial instructions at LSOC site. If there are 2 vertical slots in the back, the spacer is not there and the cupholder assembly will just snap right in.

The Panasonic ProMax and Allure fit perfectly in that little slot. Everyone that I know that has seen it has asked if the slot was designed for the phone. Keeps it from sliding under the seat. Speaking of, that deep dark black hole known as under the seats swallows everything!

I have pondered that question myself, why the cupholder that was obviously part of the design was left out on the early years...
My theory, fwiw, which aint much:
If you design in all the toys at the front end of a model run, then you can take back some of those toys in the earlier years and introduce them later as "new features" and justify price increases. All the overhead is spent up front, then the higher prices later are more pure profit. Porsche has probably made a mint on all its factory upgrade kits that make older cars look like newer models - that stuff may have been designed years ago and introduced gradually - it also introduces another markup profit center for the dealers who get to sell and install all the "updates" - but in this case, the dealer obviously doesn't know - ??
Another little thing I learned - all the "factory option" cell phones are DO's (dealer options) - installed here so the dealer can earn the hourly rate for the install, DO's are part of the contract between many carmakers and the dealers -
