Lightbulb Keep it and lightly mod it or sell and buy a 99?

Bought my first Lexus a couple months ago, a 93 SC400 Silver Spruce Metallic 2 owner with 139k on the odo and some history from seller who has had it for last 16 years. Put about 3k miles on it, DD and all. Water pump started leaking so its in shop now having timing belt, timing tensioner and pulleys, waterpump, crank and cam seals done with a full cooling system flush.

Some history that I know of, serpentine belt and pulleys, thermostat were replaced at lexus of tulsa 20k miles ago along with the battery. Has new tires, I put new front brake pads on, rears are about 60% and I replaced the moonroof control module and trunk struts. No accidents, paint is about an 8 of 10. Interior in very good shape, 9 of 10. I suspect ac compressor was done about 30k miles ago. Cant confirm tho. Only other known item it needs is LCA bushings, and about half the back lights are out on cluster, needles work but have dead spots. HVAC and radio displays are fine. PS pump, starter and alternator are fine atm but no known history on them so prolly all original.

Once I get it back from shop and do the LCA bushings myself, I will have right at $5150.00 in it with 142k on the clock.

So I am trying to decide whether to lightly mod it, updateing really more than modding it, or sell it and look for a 98 or 99 maybe with a bit lower miles since most of my mods that I want to do, the newer models already have.

Considerations: I am not crazy about the color but it has been growing on me. Then again not crazy about the 98-99 color choices either, cept the black which is rough in our crazy hot summers, and red which is ticket magnet around here. I like the RSP and the silver/platinum but never even seen either one in this state before so not likely to find one. Very few 98-99's available around here, only 4 on autotrader right now in 600 mile radius and all with higher mileage than mine.

Mods considering for my 93= RX300 wood steering wheel/bag, 98+gated shifter, DIY heated seats, skirts, rear lip, both diy color match painted, budget wheels like maybe some GS oem's. Gonna stay with 16's as I have brand new tires and I bought the car for the smooth ride as Oklahoma has some of the roughest crappiest roads in the nation. Lowered with 19's looks sweet but I would rather have the best ride I can get out of it. BFI and # 4 solenoid wire cut mod. Looking at spending about another 1500 bringing me up to about 6500k total invested. Not a lot but I will need to get as much as I can back out of it if/when I sell it down the road.

I really like the idea of knocking 5-6 years of the age of mine but I would expect to pay about 8500 in my market for 98-99 with 115k or so on it. They are so rare here tho that I just don't know that I could even find a decent one. Maybe I should stick with what I have as I at least know what I got and that its a good one??

What would you guys do if it was yours and cash was limited/tight? Got a family to take care of first and foremost but Dad's got to have some toys

heheh... there's an rsp, here. actually, tres lives in Broken Arrow.
hella sexy car...

thing is, I don't see many SC's for sale, and with the condition it's currently in, I am not 100% you will get your money out of it in our market.
I would suggest keeping it pretty stock, but throw it on the market. Craigslist is free, just keep an active ad up for it.

if it sells for a good price (for you), YAY! get a newer sc. if not, you can start to consider mods for the 93.

done a few cars this way, been pretty happy with the results.

Since all the maintenance has been done keep driving the car. If you got cash to burn, then wait untill the right car comes along. You'll be paying betweet 9k-10k grand for a nice clean vvti.
