Default Cluster Needles

I got some cluster needles from a salvage yard does anyone know how to test them before I install them? It would save a lot of time and hassle any help sure would be appreciated thax.

9v battery just touch the tips together. Some are reverse polarity so turn them around if they don't light up the first time

Incorrect. Have to use 12 volts to get them to burn at proper temp and amperage to see if they flicker.
