Default New transmission, or new solenoid?

So my O/D button is flashing on my 92 SC400. When I start the car, and put it into drive, it takes forever to engage, like 30+ seconds. Same thing in Reverse, only longer. On a cold start up, after it engages and I drive up the street, sometimes it falls out of gear, almost always at the first stop sign. I wait a couple seconds, and it clunks into gear. when it shifts to second, I can tell it doesn't want to shift into third until its been sitting at 3K rpm for a few seconds, then it finally drops down into 3rd and drives great at that point.

So 1st sucks when its cold, but 2nd sucks worse, and 3rd and 4th are no sweat.

New tranny, or is this something that I can just swap out a part on the tranny that's causing it to lag so bad. I read about a solenoid in the O/D light flashing thread.

Normally I never ask and just get to work on this stuff, but I just dropped a whole damn steering rack only to find out the damn inner tie rod could have just been unbolted and replaced, lol. So I dont wanna pull a repeat, go buy a transmission, pull it, then pull mine, and repace it... unless I gots to

Also I read that I need a 92-94 trans from the SC400 or LS400, only those years, is this right?

Thanks!

first you need to jump the diagnostic ports and pull the code from the OD light...jump te1 and e1 then count the flashes the OD off light makes..google the results and that should tell you whats wrong...

and the solenoid being bad would explain my shifting problems? What do I need to jump the codes, and where is te1 and e1 while you're spoon feeding me

Thanks for the help. I have a very vague understanding of what I'm doing. I'm bridging two pins on diagnostic port. Just because I'm curious, why am I jumping pin to pin, or is that just to trigger the blinking, in which case a friend sitting inside the car will count flashes?

Got some keywords for me on my google search? Diagnostic port jump 4 blinks ?? I'm always flying by the seat of my pants it seems, lol, just trying to get a grasp on this. I have a guy who's willing to let me pull the auto tranny with 171K on it for 200 bucks. If my tranny is good, which I have a hard time believing it is, and all I need is the solenoid, then I'd hate to spend the 200 bucks.

The car the tranny is in gets towed away to the wrecker tomorrow, so I gotta figure all this out with the quickness. Help much appreciated guys.

...u jump in then turn on the ignition to get power..and count the blinks..simple as that..
the blinks might be 2 then a pause then 3 more..which would = 23..or something like 6 pause 5...65..then google that number..

it probably is a solenoid..its what controls ur shifting..if it doesnt work then...it wont go into the gear that it needs to be in..
