Default odd power steering issue?

Tuesday night, I stopped at the gas station for a drink after work, shut the car off, ran inside.
came out, started backing out of the spot, and realized I have no power steering. fearing a busted serpentine, I moved the car out of the way. while moving it, I noticed the ABS light was on.
with the engine running, popped the hood, belt is spinning just fine. pulled the cap for the power steering resivoir, noticed it looked like it was flowing in at a fast rate, but not going to over fill. also noted it was a little high.
put the cap back on, and the power steering worked (abs light was off). odd...

Today, went to grab a bite to eat. got to the resturant, shut down, ran inside.
came back out, same deal: no power steering, abs light on.
popped the hood, checked the resivoir. wasn't flowing like it was tuesday, but still a little over full (yeah, I have to fix that :/)
this time, it wasn't "fixed."
drove it half a mile back to work, the power steering never did catch up.

any thoughts? searched, but didn't find anything resembling my symptoms.

(note: when I say it "wasn't working," I mean it was barely working. still had some sort of assist, but it wasn't normal. maybe "Almost not working" would be more apt. drove a car with no power steering, this was much easier, but not like it should be)
Thanx.

Nobody has any ideas? That's really strange.

Overfilling the PS tank could be a problem, mine was overfilled and it whined like crazy. Even thought thats not the same problem, but try to flush the PS fluid, if its not a cherry red then you need to flush it,.

see, that's the thing; my pump has never whined, squeaked, or even hiccuped until this.
I'll try a flush, see what happens.
