Default will the sc400 run without a fuel pump ecu? fuel pump harness is bypassed.

Just picked a 400 and have yet to get it running. Engine has spark. Next step is to check compression and injectors.

I sprayed starter fluid in the intake and she started right up. Malfunctioning Ecu has been ruled out. It was just replaced a month ago And the cel Light comes on when ignition is in the on position.

So I guess my question is will it run without the fuel pump Ecu, even though its been bypassed? I don't know what the previous owner did but the ecu is missing.

Yes I had mine bypassed and forgot to re connect it. I got a CEL light for the Fuel pump ecu but had no issues.

OK thanks for the quick reply.

My next step is to check compression and injectors. Im leaning toward injectors as the culprit.

Is the fuel pump running? check it first, since someone was messing with the power circuit. I'd start with the fuse if it isn't, and work back to the pump.

Thanks for the reply.

Yes the fuel pump is turning on, engine is turning, it has spark. But wont start. All fuses under the Hood are good.

Tomorrow I will do a compression test. I pulled the spark plugs and 6 of 8 were drenched in fuel. I'm guessing I may have a few bad injectors. Ugh this car is a pain so far.

Also the previous owner just had the Ecu, fuel pump and the strainer replaced on the 30th of December. I have receipts for the repairs. so I highly doubt the pump is bad or the Ecu. In starting to question the compression. Will keep you guys posted.

100% sure. I pulled all plugs and grounded them to the strut towers. All 8 had spark. Question where on the fuel rail can I test fuel pressure?

how did the plugs look? black white etc.?? if the plugs are soaking wet in gas why would it start when you spray starter fluid in the throttle body if its already getting fuel?

Sorry i made a mistake. The plugs were very black and appeared to be covered in oil. I tried starting it today with starter fluid but had no luck. Last night I got it to run for approximately 5 seconds with starter fluid, then it cut off.

sounds to me like it isn't a compression issue, but a spark issue.

its a fuel issue if it started with starter fluid right ?, did you disconnect the fuel filter at the pump side turn the car to acc and see if fuel comes out? if it does then try it on the other side... if its not as strong change the fuel filter... then take off the line by the brake booster and see if its coming out there .. if so then you know your getting fuel

that starter fluid coulda fouled out the plugs if you sprayed to much... how did they smell like gas? or no
