I am looking to swap the automatic tranny out of my 1998 sc300 with a manual. I know lexus stopped making the manual transmission in the sc300 in 1997, would it be wise to just swap it with a 97 transmission? If not then where can i find a newer one that matches up? I called up a transmission shop and they said I would have to re-route all the electrical wiring, get a new ignition, and re-route the exhaust. Is that true? and if so would it be something I could tackle in my garage?

The trickiest part of the swap is the wiring. All of the signals required for the auto ECU will be gone. I have not come across a simple solution for this.
My plans for my 98' is a complete TT swap; therefore, I'll end up going standalone for engine management that will cure some of the problems that will arise. Going standalone is not a plug and play option for the 98+ cars as well. So either way you chose leads to some research and labor.
