You guys will notice a price increase after 92- for any of you business majors out there you'll recall the study on lexus's pricing strategy at launch. When toyota brought out their "luxury brand" it was met with very similar views as hyundai releasing their genesis. Lexus's value proposition was top quality at an unbeatable cost. But that's not what the typical luxury buyer wanted. Your typically luxury car buyer saw it as a "cheap" luxury car in spite of it's outstanding build quality for the time simply because it was significantly lower priced versus the competition. Lexus had a very difficult time selling them in spite of insane production numbers. After 92 they decreased production volume and increased price while changing nothing else in the car. They couldn't keep them on the lot. Suddenly the German car buyers took Lexus seriously as a premium luxury brand, and they were willing to pay

It was a big deal when they came out. My dad's friend had a poster of one on his wall in High School and College.

I remember somebody telling me about that, But IIRC it was with the LS in 88/89 not the SC.

I've got the window sticker for my 99 SC400. Base MSRP was $55,305. With the Nak system, sunroof (yeah, they were an option - ever seen an SC without one?), "winter package" (traction control, heated seats), chrome wheels and destination charge, total MSRP was $61,617.
And the carfax showed no lien on the first title, which means the person who bought it new paid cash...
