Yes I have both the know-how and the facilities. But I have no time going to school when my shop is an hour and a half away. The shop is not public, it is for our fleet vehicles and right now its way to busy to justify having our mechanics work on my car. I install most of my aftermarket parts, but I leave maintenance to shops like this.

The list I gave my mechanic of problem's I had been having:

-Check Engine Light(02 Sensors?)
-Brake warning light(needs to be cleared, car started with instrument cluster out)
-Coolant sensor light comes on intermittently(no clue)
-Oil on bottom of pan(Gasket I believe)
-Spedometer Jumps sometimes(Speed Sensor?)

the only issue here that needs to be taken care of is the cel really.

Oil on bottom of pan doesnt seem serious at all--especially since your car has over 200 000 miles--its expected and even normal.

Speedometer jumping is no big deal-----is the coolant sensor light the one that looks like the 'white house'

mine comes on intermittenly also but i have never bothered with it .

Imagine all the upgrades you can do for 4 grand--I really hope your not going to allow this to happen.

Good luck

yes, Small easy fix, forgot the specifics, but I would not even classify it as a minor issue.

Did I mention
-I took the car in on the 22nd of Febuary and they just now finished diagnosing it?
-The car sat for a whole day because they didn't know there was a fuse between my front battery and my car audio battery and were trying to take a part my stereo system to get to the rear battery.
-They insist that the engine covers (the ones that say 4Cam V8) were essential, otherwise I would get junk inside my timing cover and screw up my engine.

-Power Steering Reservoir & Pressure hose Leak:1130$

(I have never heard of this. The 1UZ has 2 oil pans? And apparently this involves pulling out the engine, seriously?)

TOTAL:4162$

Is this guy crazy or am I just overreacting?

Its not that I have a problem paying for maintinence, but I brought the car in for simple issues, I guess expected simple prices. On top of that, they can't even diagnose why my spedometer will jump around sometimes. They said I should replace the internals of the cluster. Right now I feel like they are trying to take advantage of me.

One more thing, anyone else get pissed when your mechanic tries to explain something to you like he's talking to a 16 year old girl? I'm not stupid, but I think he is convinced hinmself otherwise.
The power steering quote is absolutely stupid. I had my whole rack replaced for $400.

Yes there are two oil pans but don't ever recall hearing about having to pull the engine to access the snd one.

A/C hose sounds stupid too.

I have not clue about the O2 sensors or the airbag sensor. Let me put it to you this way... I had my whole water pump/ timing belt/ every seal known to man for that service/ shocks/ wheels & tires/ spark plugs/ plug wires/ cap & rotors/ steering rackignition coils/ complete fluids flush/ air filter/ cabin filter/ valve cover gaskets/ thermostat changed out and it was less than 4100 dollars.....granted I did my plugs & wires/ignition stuff but damn still!

go somewhere else asap if you dont want to do it yourself. even the dealer price is cheaper for replacing the 2 front main o2 sensors! and dealer prices are usually alot higher then auto shops
