Default Is my mechanic serious?

So apparently this is what's wrong with my car and what's needed to fix it(92 SC400):

-Both Front 02 Sensors:531$

-Air Bag Primary Sensor:924$
(Could this be misinterprited from starting the car without the cluster in?)

-Power Steering Reservoir & Pressure hose Leak:1130$

-"Upper" Oil Pan Gasket:1170$
(I have never heard of this. The 1UZ has 2 oil pans? And apparently this involves pulling out the engine, seriously?)

-Repair, not replace, A/C High Pressure hose leak:407$

TOTAL:4162$

Is this guy crazy or am I just overreacting?

Its not that I have a problem paying for maintinence, but I brought the car in for simple issues, I guess expected simple prices. On top of that, they can't even diagnose why my spedometer will jump around sometimes. They said I should replace the internals of the cluster. Right now I feel like they are trying to take advantage of me.

One more thing, anyone else get pissed when your mechanic tries to explain something to you like he's talking to a 16 year old girl? I'm not stupid, but I think he is convinced himself otherwise.

oh man hes telling you hes pulling out the engine for an oil pan---i dont know there may be an oil pan that can only be accessed by pulling out the engione but i highly doubt it--------this guy is really trying to take you for a ride----dont let him do any work whatsoever-

if u dont mind me asking what sysptoms did your car have b4 taking your car there?

is this just maintenance or was there some sort of issue?

Dont forget you can buy a nearly brand new 1uz --30 000 miles or so for $500.00.

Be sure to tell him this

your absolutely right to think hes taking advantage of you----please forgive me for saying but hes trying to rip you off completely.

has anyone ever looked at the bottom side of the car?, im not agreeing with his quotes they are insane.. ,but it is a 2 piece oil pan and im not sure if you can drop the subrame and do it (i havent tried so i dont know) but if not you have to pull the engine at least at the minimum yank it up a foot or so

Stay far, far away and don't ever return.

The only price listed there that seems reasonable are the 02 Sensors if it includes labor and Denso parts.

Default Just fix it yourself

You should just do this stuff yourself. How is the engine running. If it has that many problems yo might want to consider replacing the engine, but it sounds like nuisance issues.

2 denso O2 sensors from Rock auto cost $160. Diy. Pretty easy.

-Air Bag Primary Sensor:924$

Is your airbag light on. There are lots of threads about this. Pull codes to make sure it just from cluster being disconnected while ignition was turned on. Strip off the ends of 2 wires and fix yourself.

-Power Steering Reservoir & Pressure hose Leak:1130$

Look on eBay for replacement parts and diy.

I am pretty sure there is an upper pan on the 1uz. Do you have an oil leak?
If it does have to be changed I can see that being a pita.

Every engine has 2 oil pans. the sheet metal one on the bottom is called the lower oil pan, and the other one is guess what....the UPPER oil pan. The lower oil pan's only duty is to provide a sump for the oil pick up tube to pick oil up from, also to allow access for oil drainage. The upper oil pan is the lower part of the block, which is where the crankshaft and crank counter weights repeatedly dip into the oil for lubrication.

And yes, ur mechanic is pulling the classic mechanic move on you......he thinks you don't know anything about cars
