Hey, what are electrochromatic side mirrors?

Alledgedly, they come slightly tinted and are supposed to dim down more when direct light hits them. Therefore annoying *** lifted trucks without corrected headlights won't blind you at night.

CTang, you have them? I always wanted to swap mine for electrochromic, but wanted to see them in person first. I wonder if I have to replace the whole side mirror, or just the mirro itself? Mine are already heated, so there's power running to them. Also, I always wanted to switch my door panels to a pair with all one-touch Auto up and down. Same with the moon-roof controller. So much to do, so little time, so little money...

Electrochromatic mirrors are sorta like single pixel monchrome laptop screens. When the forward looking photocell in the inside rear view mirror detects darkness and the rearward looking one detects bright lights behind then a voltage is applied to the liquid crystal material which causes it to darken.

Yeah, they are basically auto dimming side mirrors. I think they started in 97....
I would also be interested as to whther you would have to replace the whole mirror...or just the glass. I would assume the glass might be pretty expensive too.
Did all SC4's have the auto dimming REAR view mirrors?
Lex...as to the one touch switch....I heard they sell relay kits or something that you can convert your windows or whatever to one touch, so you may not have to switch out a ton.

I'd like to do the same for my windows on my LS.
The auto down thing on the windows seems pretty complicated. After opening up the drivers side controls I noticed it's almost impossible to just add another auto down switch into the drivers side unit.
Also, I always wondered if they made dimming side mirrors. Looks like they do exist!

They have them in the CLK too. It's pretty sweet. Everything looks green but you can really see when it's pitch black.
As for the Autodown, I asked about that when I had the SC. There's a little module you can buy and like LVANGUNDY said, it would be pretty hard. I don't get how it would work though.
Would you have to add in another button, or would it work with your current window buttons? Because if it worked with your current window buttons, then how would you open your windows just a tad bit without having them open all the way?

Moshlub, are the mirror wiring harnesses from '95 to '96 compatible as well or do I have to splice in? And when you buy them, do you know if it comes in primer gray or painted?

As far as the factory wire harness goes, I'm not sure. Maybe some of the guys here with the manuals can help you there.
The mirrors come in color molded plastic, so you have to specify the color when ordering.
