Default SC300 needs new front calipers, rotors, pads.

I took my 1997 SC300 (71000 miles on it) for a routine 5000 mile service and the dealer says I need to replace the front calipers, rotors and pads due to age. Cost: $2500, which includes a 10% discount. So what do I do?

If I'm going to spend that kind of money wouldn't it make sense to upgrade the brakes with some aftermarket product like Brembo, etc.? The OEM brakes on the SCs are mediocre and I am sure Toyota charges an arm and a leg for the parts.

Has anyone out there done a brake replacement of this type? If so, what did it cost?

there are performance brake kits for our cars for FAR less money, assuming you are willing to do labor. even OEM brakes or ls400 brakes, calipers, and rotors can be done for under $1000

If you're serious about upgrading in that price range, I've got a set for you:

Why would you even replace the front calipers?

I'm sure if they were seized you'd notice.

You can check this by checking your brake pads and seeing if there is uneven wear.

Also jack up the front right, spin wheel. Spins freely, all good.

Test the other side by doing the above, but to the left side.

You can get OEM parts from vendors on the site or aftermarket(good ones) for under $500.

The brakes and stuff may seem mediocre, but what exactly do you use the car for?

$2500 is way too much even for overpricing, the best rotors and pads from autozone wont run you near that much and will work well for what ever you do unless u decide to track regularly

First....never bring a car to a dealer...unless its to fix a recall.

Second If I was you...Go to autozone or advanced auto parts (tons of coupons online save up to 50 if not more) and just buy LS400 Calipers and some rotors and pads to match...BBK at the really nice price.

Found Some for you...There are plenty of options...non premium stuff is about 1/2 the price. You'd be surprised how good this stuff feels.

Split the order up and Use coupon code "VISA" and save up to $50 off $150...

With a few separate orders and using the right coupon code I got everything (2 calipers, 2 rotors and pads) for a Total of 188.88 after a $ 60 core charge. Shipping depends on location and if you can pick it up (free)
