Yes NOT Lexus reliability at all! I regret getting to a high end german car (Audi s6) And I am a mechanic by trade so I figured I could fix anything however I did not think I would be fixing something new everyday what a pain that was...

One of my local used car dealerships has had a black 8 series for sale on the lot for the last 5+ years.... NO JOKE. It's actually pretty clean too because I came up to look at it and after all these years I'm still shocked it hasn't moved. I guess the dealership owners haven't heard of ebay lol...

I'm a huge BMW fan and I love the 8 series especially, but there is a reason I went to Lexus after the last 10 years with BMW's. Its a beautiful car though! Have fun with it!

Yah do your reaserach unless its a great deal and you can flip it down the road. How much is the asking price?

The v8's had some head gasket problems...lots of them blow at around 60-80k. I was gonna buy a 540i but after all the research and CRAZZZZZY maintenance you need I went with the lexus and saved 10k.

8 series is wicked dope thou! Good luck!

hmmmmmm. i knew bmw's were costly to maintain but i didnt realize it was this bad.

I did a little research and it seems like parts are going to be very hard to find and very costly as well.

Looks like they had alot of recalls on the 8 series as well.

The reliability of the sc alone might be a reason to try to keep it.

Heres a link of some of the recalls--im sure there are much more if u look into it further.

Good luck----maybe take your time on this one unless its a real steal of a price.

Alot of that had to do with the nickasil lining in the block. After a while they would idle really rough and burble alot, very NOT typical of a luxury sports car. They were replaced, as customers complained, without question by BMW with alumasil blocks free of charge. They also extended the motor's warranty. Not bashing BMW but the 8 series is particularly scary. Worked at a Bimmer dealer for years. I'd rather drive a 1st gen 6-series or 2nd gen M5/M3. Look before you leap on this one dude. We don't want you getting burned
BTW, you won't be winning ANY roll-ons or stoplight fights in this car.

A 90's top of the line german car just sounds like a bad idea.

HAHA have you seen the modern BMW drivers of the new models.....almost all are ****** that dont know **** about the car (or its heritage) and just want to buy it to put this fake "Im rich and I'm better" attitude. I live in one of the snobbiest towns in Mass (sucks) and every yuppy ***** has to have a bmw....and if they cant get bimmer....its an Audi.

I like BMW, I love classic BMW's but I cant stand many of these pompous drivers
