This thread has the making of another GTE vs NA-T battle lol.

OP: You need to weigh the pros and cons, you could do a basic Dave H na-t kit and get that extra power or sell your car get a V8 and do a 5spd swap but again it's up to you.

The regular 1UZ-FE is not reliable specifically the OBD-I versions. There is a whole multi-page thread about how unplugging the MAF sensor restores power because of an unknown issue.

It is cheaper, easier and more convenient to do a transmission swap instead of an engine swap.
It definitely puts down more power with a manual transmission but whatever.

If you seriously want an NA V8 swap you aren't locked in to the the 4.0 engine, you could get a 4.3 or 4.7 Toyota engine to swap in. Check out www.lextreme.com for all forms of Toyota V8 goodness.

But if your looking for 1uz's to swap they are incredibly cheap--i was very surprised.

there was a video in a thread not too long ago that put the soarer 2.5 (1jz gte) againt the soarer 4.0(1uz) and being a v8 guy myself i was sad to see the results.

The 2.5 made very easy work of the 4.0---------on another note the 2.5 pretty much beat every car it was put against-----the 8 series bmw and the acura legend

Although the hp difference is nothing drastic beetween the two engines i think the automatic on the 1uz really takes away from its potential---ive heard ifyou do a manual swap on the v8 it frees up about 25-30 hp that is lost with the auto.

Oh the 1uz 4.0 soarer also lost to the acura legend
Please do not use that video as an example. That 1UZ Soarer ran high 16's which is completely BS! There was something obviously wrong there. The JZ's may be easier to get more power out of, but jeez.

It's about a 500-1000 dollar difference between the two. Like I said a long time I would never recommend a 1JZ because the price difference is so low.

lol bartle doo

that video hurt me as much as anyone.

I was convinced it was driver error or some sort of rigged race.

I didnt want to accept it either.

The fact is the 2.5 soarer really put some distance on the 4.0--whether there was bias in that video or driver error i dont know--but it is what it is---the op can take it for what its worth.

Yes the 4.0 ran in the 16's but if im not mistaken the 2.5 ran in the 13's which is quite impressive.

anyways im still a 1uz guy all the way --just wish there was more readily available and affordable mods for it.

It's obviously a misinforming video. They may not be fast but they are certainly not as slow as that video makes them look. That Soarer must have had a couple spark plugs pulled.

Yes they are. The ludicrous design elements of the original 1UZ along with the limitations in technology make the engine age poorly.

Oooookay I guess mine was just a 2 second faster freak with the only mod being a manual transmission. Are you a freshman who thinks he is an engineer already?

No i wrote 50 hp over my 6 cyl with the 4.0 v8 for less than a NA T.

It all comes to money , by the time a swap in a turbo kit with and exhausts ,engine management, intercooler, radiator , etc.. a $1700 turbo kit turns into 5-7 g's real quick,

I was thinking maybe a 5 spd v8 would just be cheaper and more reliable with power on tap.

It makes sense i should of just had a v8(sc400).

Thanks for the info.

I would love to see an honest run of a STOCK 1JZ vs an other wise stock manual 1UZ.
