In that video the v8 is a soarer uzz32 with active suspension and way heavier than our sc400s (uzz30).
IDK why account2x says the 1uz isn't reliable. Maybe a hater.
If you want a v8, go for it, you'll end up lovin' it. =)

a stock sc400 should be doing low 15's if im not mistaken.
With a manual swap im quite sure it can do low 14's no problem.
Im trying not to be biased but i think the 1uz us really up there with some of the best made engines of all time.
They last forever

Compare the 1UZ to other V8's of its era... and I don't see it as a "ludicrous design". Compared to bogus motors like GM's L98, smogged out SBF's and the like... and its looking pretty good to me.
Could it have used more displacment? Yep.
Could the cams have been more aggressive? Yep.
I think I've seen you post before on this issue, and a big complaint of yours was the intake manifold. The intake manifold is designed for low end torque... pretty much end of discussion. Just like the L98/TPI motor's stock intake manifold. IF you want to pickup a ton of top end build a short runner intake and cam it right.

Have you removed the starter on both a 92 SC400 and a 98 GS400? The difference between the two engines is night and day.
Side-facing Throttle Body
Curved Intake Runners
Dual Distributor setup
Two Igniters
Two ignition coils (for 8 cylinders)
10 Spark Plug Wires
Cold Start Injector
Karmen Vortex Mass Air Flow Sensor
Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve
Idle Air Control Valve
The original 1UZ and even the OBD-II version ARE NOT modern engines or even close to being modern. They are an 80s design and it shows. This is not speculation or conjecture but fact.
The attitude some people in this thread possess show exactly why Lexus never released a lower displacement turbo model in America. The average uneducated person sees 2 more cylinders and more displacement and thinks "IT HAS TO BE BETTER." NEWS FLASH NO. There is more to an engine besides those two factors.
