I should of had a V8 ????
I bought a nice sc300 5 spd , I dont have the cash for a NA turbo set up or do i want to deal with a turbo swapped engine , to much cash when said and done.
I really would like to swap in a sc400 v8 with headers , intake , exhaust and computer tweak , I think a Lexus v8 5 spd is what im looking for , I know i want put out the number a NA turbo would but like i said i think i could do the V8 + 50 hp over the 6 cyl for a lot less $$
I have searched and have not found much , How hard is this swap .
Where can i get a sc400 engine in Los Angeles is my other question for less.
Thanks in advance.

Will it be faster than my 6 cyl ??
I just dont want to open up a can of worm and cash with going turbo.
If i could get a solid 50whp over what i have now with a reliable lexus V8 i think i would enjoy it.
I just dont want to spend 5-7 grand on a turbo set up.

The 1UZ is, on average, around 260hp.
The 1JZGTE is approximately 285hp in stock form, correct?
So we are talking about 25hp difference. Given that the transmission will be the same, how much faster, really, is one over the other???
Does anyone have any hard numbers?

I understand but the 5 spd V8 just seem nice to me, I know the tubo will burn HP but to much money , I have done that with my 240sx redtop $$$ it never ends.
Dont want to have to worry about tunes and computers and boost .
Just want a solid V8 5 spd.
Japanese V8 would be reliable and tight. Fill it up and go. with headers, intake custom exhaust and a computer flash it has to be better than my 6 cyl ,
The turbo's get me in trouble.

This keeps being repeated here on the CL boards almost every time the conversation comes up. I'd be curious to know how much faster, really, a 5spd (R154) 1JZGTE is over a 1UZ 5spd/R154.
The 1UZ is, on average, around 260hp.

The 1UZ-FE is around 205hp at the wheels.
The 1UZ-FE VVT-i is around 250hp at the wheels
The 1JZ-GTE is around 250hp at the wheels.
(1JZ is actually more powerful than the 1UZ-FE VVT-i but they are "around" the same)
Some interesting math. the 1UZ is 4.0L at vacuum (atmospheric pressure). The 1JZ stock boost is around .7 bar. 2.5 x .7 = 1.75 liters of extra displacement. Under boost the 1JZ has an equivalent displacement of a 4.25L engine.
Intake, exhaust, boost controller and the 1JZ is beyond the 1UZ.
The 1UZ-FE VVT-i is a good idea if you do not want to deal with turbocharging a vehicle but it is still weaker.
The regular 1UZ-FE is not reliable specifically the OBD-I versions. There is a whole multi-page thread about how unplugging the MAF sensor restores power because of an unknown issue.
It is cheaper, easier and more convenient to do a transmission swap instead of an engine swap.

Don't bother swapping a stock motor from another car into your stock car. Its not worth the time and hassle. Either sell the sc300 and buy a sc400 and then swap the 5spd to the 400 and the auto from the 400 to the 300 and sell it off.

yes all in all this will be the easiest way to go about it I think.
But if your looking for 1uz's to swap they are incredibly cheap--i was very surprised.

there was a video in a thread not too long ago that put the soarer 2.5 (1jz gte) againt the soarer 4.0(1uz) and being a v8 guy myself i was sad to see the results.
The 2.5 made very easy work of the 4.0---------on another note the 2.5 pretty much beat every car it was put against-----the 8 series bmw and the acura legend
Although the hp difference is nothing drastic beetween the two engines i think the automatic on the 1uz really takes away from its potential---ive heard ifyou do a manual swap on the v8 it frees up about 25-30 hp that is lost with the auto.
Oh the 1uz 4.0 soarer also lost to the acura legend

if you cant afford to go Na-T please dont attempt to do anything....because na-t is about the cheapest thing out there...you can always get a used kit and run 300rwhp safely without changing compression.
